GREAT WORK!!!!!

The install was painless. I've been using KnoppMyth since early 2005 (I don't remember the version at the time) and this one has been the easiest and most straight forward.

I didn't have too many recorded shows that I wanted to keep so I just copied my movies over to my external hard drive and did a fresh install.

Some system info:

Straight forward hardware (I'd say it's Tier 1 as I've never had trouble with other versions working on it) with a PVR-250 (w/remote) and a PVR-500. A nvidia card connected to a standard tv via SVID.

Here is are a few things that I have found so far:

1. There is no menu item to shutdown/reboot the system that I can find.

2. When I escape out of the front end I just get the orange LINHES screen. I miss the fluxbox X window where I could use ROX to manage my files between my Hard Drive and external drive. Is there a X windows interface that I am missing?

3. When I press CTRL+ALT+F1 to get to a terminal window all I get is the complete tv screen filled with what look like @ symbols covering it. I don't know if/where to fix it.

4. MythWeather won't find my location by ZIP or City/State so won't work.

These a very minor issues but ones that I have used a lot (except weather) in previous versions.

I'm looking forward to the official release, maybe some of my issues will be addressed then.

LONG LIVE LINHES!!!! 8)

John

Alt+x brings up an x window
Alt+1 starts the backend
Alt+2 stops the backend
Alt+3 restarts the backend
Alt+s starts the setup
Alt+m starts the frontend

Alt+H gives a list of these commands (athough Alt+1 And Alt+2 are reversed)

Thanks. I finally figured this out on my own last night...

I would still like a reboot button I could use with my remote. I might figure out how to make one. I remember making one for "eject" before it was added.

I would also like fluxbox or xface to get to as well. I'm not sure what the Orange "LinHES" screen is for if you exit the front end.

Thanks for the help!

Press "M" on your keyboard or equivalent remote control button. A nice pop up menu appears.

Fluxbox is still used. It's just a new background image. To get ROX try submitting a feature request on flyspray.

This is a MythTV issue not a LinHES one. MythWeather underwent a change about 12-18 months ago that, IMO, made it a lot harder to use. Try a local airport code. For me, I use KSMO for Santa Monica, CA Municipal Airport.

Thanks!

You answered most of my questions!

The "menu" button on my Hauppauge Grey remote brings up the menu... nice :)

I feel like a total nube not trying to right click on the LinHES background to get the Fluxbox menu. DOH!

I used the local airport code to get MythWeather to work. Nice.

I'll worry about a file manager later. I can do everything I need from SSH command line for now.

Do you know if remote desktop (rdp/vlc) is enabled by default like in R5.5?

Thanks again

I assume you mean vnc not vlc. I don't think so. You can install it with pacman.

Code:
man pacman

for usage information.

The first virtual console seems to have been hijacked for some kind of status message output. Try Ctrl-Alt-F2

I also seem to remember that X is on a different v-console screen, like 5 rather than 7...

Was this available in earlier versions? If so, I never knew about it...

Yes of course it was. These options were under the KnoppMyth menu along with backup and restore. The change was to move them to a "hidden" menu. Backup and restore are now under the Services menu along with LinHES and MythTV setup.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I should have worded this question differently. I know the options were there in the KnoppMyth Menu. I was really asking if the hidden menu was in the earlier versions and I just never found it.

Maybe this could be added to the wiki page for R6/R5 differences/equivalents?

Does anyone know the location of the file (presumably a .xml?) that contains the code for this popup menu?
