All shows on some channels will not record, I get a "recording unavailable" error when I try to play them. The size of the file is zero. With liveTV, I have no problems viewing, and later playing back the same channel. The tuner is a HDHR. I'm running .09. I thought this might be a permissions issue, but some channels wont record, while others will.

I performed two tests, using the frontend and program guide to record a program on a known good channel, and a known bad channel.

Here is a backend log for a failed recording:

This sounds identical to the problem I had a couple of weeks ago and discussed in this post and was caused by channels changing frequency as they roll out new HD channels. If you are in Australia the same thing may have happened to you. If so I suggest a re-scan of the channels and check the listing of channels in setup (or Mythweb) and delete any duplicates.

After reading nicom's response, I added the location to my profile.

If Comcast changed the channels, then the liveTV option would not work. The only thing I'm afraid of, is having to rescan the channels. Comcast strips ALL channel info from the streams, so I have to watch each individual channel to figure them out. This takes at least 6hrs to do.

I also was able to watch LiveTV but was unable to record. Rescanning for me was straight forward but I can't help with the Comcast thing.

Thanks for adding the location to your profile. It can be a handy diagnostic input.

hi,

Do an "ls -l" on the missing shows where the live tv works.

The scte65scan-0.2.1 utility can actually help a great deal with this. You can get things 95% right within 15 minutes. It took me a bit longer than this when I did it, but I was also scripting the process so that it was automatic and repeatable when I do test installs or the like.

As for differences between the "live" TV versus recordings, there is a "quicktune" option which may be affecting this. Try setting it to "never" or "always" and see what effect that has.

It turns out that Comcast was changing the channel lineup, causing my problems. My TV was finding double channels for the stations that I could watch using LiveTV, and could not record. So, there were two 4.1's on the TV (not the mythtv). After the lineup changes settled down, there are now only channels 2-32 analog, and the same number of digital channels. Most of the digital channels have moved.

The scte65scan seems to be working, I had to install the base-devel package (for make), and download the HDHR driver. There were four program listings, but the one for zip code 95008 might be 0x0bfa (3066). I don't have a DTA, or a STB to verify the VCT_ID, but I was able to match the lineup to actual channels. The scte65scan wanted the 3066 for the VCT_ID, not the hex value. I ran out of time, with mysql asking for a password when trying to do "mysql mythconverg < vct.sql". I'll try and figure this out later.

I couldn't find a how-to for the scte65scan tool on the forum, should I start one?

The output of the scan tool looks good, it's missing some HD stations though. This looks promising, I was about to just switch to OTA only, and cut the cable.
thanks tjc!

The password is "mythtv". Alternatively, perform it as the mysql root user and you won't have to enter a password.

Code:
mysql -u root mythconverg < vct.sql

I was able to add the channels from the scte65scan to mythconverg. Mythfilldatabase was not able to get any listings for any channel. After changing the source to "DigitalCable" for each channel in the channel editor, the listings and xmltvid's were downloaded. I was not able to tune into any of the channels, liveTV or recordings. The backendlog showed an error

Failed to find channel in DB on input '1'

I tried to search for this error, but didn't find much. Not finding anything obvious in the database, I wrote down all the data for channel, xmltvid, mplexid, and service id in mythconverg. Then I deleted all the channels in the channel editor, and rescanned. The channels were listed as 79#0, 79#1,

EDIT: This isn't true, I just got lucky with some mplex and service id matching.

etc, witch matches the mplexid and service id. After entering all the data by hand, I'm back up and running. I had to do some hunting for the HD channels, but there are only a few of them. At least I didn't have to view every single channel this time.

If you go back and look at the scte65scan options (scte65scan --help) you may notice something about sourceid in the format option.

Check the "cardinput" table in your DB and see what "sourceid"s you're using. If they're not all 1 or the entries you added to the "channel" table aren't listed as belonging to sourceid 1 that's likely your problem. Actually the actual value(s) of sourceid don't really matter just so long as they're consistent.

ok, now it works! The sourceid was 20 for me.

So now with:

./scte65scan -H FFFFFFFF -f 3,20 -p -V 3066 us-Cable-Standard-center-frequencies-QAM256 > vct.sql

then:

mysql -u root mythconverg < vct.sql

All I have to do is fix a couple HD channel entries from "4.1" to "704" to match schedules direct. There are only 3 HD stations I have to hunt for now.

then:

mythfilldatabase --refresh-all

The whole process takes around 20 min now, great!
Now I can finally update my parents mythtv box without too much trouble.

thanks!
