Post subject:  Cannot watch LiveTV from remote FE

[moved out of installation forum, probably not the correct place for it]

Hi all,

Slightly complicated setup:
    R6
MBE running in VirtualBox (no tuners here)
    1 X diskless SBE running on a P4 with KWorld115 tuner & 2 X Hauppauge 150
    2 X diskless FEs
/myth stored centrally & mounted via nfs

From the SBE I can watch Live TV fine but from the MBE it flashes to a blank screen and then quickly comes back to the Myth menu. mythfrontend.log on MBE shows this:

Quote:
2009-12-07 09:19:27.046 TV: Attempting to change from None to WatchingLiveTV
2009-12-07 09:19:27.061 Using protocol version 40
2009-12-07 09:19:27.074 GetEntryAt(-1) failed.
2009-12-07 09:19:27.076 EntryToProgram(0@Wed Dec 31 16:00:00 1969) failed to get pginfo
2009-12-07 09:19:27.076 TV Error: LiveTV not successfully started
2009-12-07 09:19:27.076 TV Error: LiveTV not successfully started
2009-12-07 09:19:27.140 TV: Deleting TV Chain in destructor

This section of the log is all there is. Note the goofy pgm date. I google and find lots of hits on this date & the "GetEntryAt" stmt, mostly related to storage groups (mine look good & their permissions) and messed up DB data (e.g. 'delete your capture cards & start again', which I tried). Note that recordings work great (i.e. I can schedule them and play them back anywhere). Also, for now, I'm am only trying to get the KWorld running.

Any thoughts? TIA.

Can you play the video via xine and/or mplayer on the MBE?

Anything in your /var/log/myth*/*log files?

I can play videos fine in MythVideo using mplayer on the MBE. I can certainly access the TV's mpg files from the MBE (meaning, using 'ls -l' & the perms look good too). EDIT: Ok, just to prove to myself I wasn't missing anything, I did an alt-x from the MBE's mythfrontend & from the cmd line ran mplayer on one of the TV files and it was fine. I assume this is what you were asking?

BTW I have the same problem from my FEs, so in other words, the SBE is the only place from where I can watch live TV.

The log above is from the MBE's mythfrontend log file. When i check the SBE's mythbackend log while doing this, there are no entries at all, which surprised me, I would have expected to have seen something there, right? Does this mean the MBE's FE is not even talking to the SBE or at least not even trying to access the tuner?

Thx for the reply... I'm totally stuck :(

When I had this problem, I was able to solve it by going into the backend setup and changing the initial channel for the affected tuner.

My log matched yours exactly.

Thx for the suggestion but I had tried it and it didn't work. Most of my channels do not have pgm data so just now I made sure it was pointing to one that does but still no joy :-(

I have also deleted all tuners & re-added only the KWorld. Starting chnl is still one with pgm data.

Also tried to repair the DB as mentioned in a similar post in this forum.

In a final act of desperation I physically removed the Hauppauges, moved the KWorld to another PCI slot & deleted & re-added the card defn in myth, still no go :-(
Keep the ideas coming....

TIA

How are you for hard drive space on the MBE?

I had this problem on my 2 diskless FE machines because my MBE was running out of room on the drive that the /nfsroot/ was mounted on, and the FEs were booting from.

This was with 5.5, so things may be configured a bit differently in R6 though.

I got all excited when I saw this posting as indeed that partition was 97% full! So, after a lot of clonezilla'ing etc it is now 33% full but I still get the same error.. :-(

Oh well, thx for trying...
