FE only system:
P4 2.66GHz
768MB RAM
PCI 8400GS GFX Card
R6
nVidia Driver version 190.53 (installed directly from nVidia's site)
mplayer cmd line: I merely used the scripts posted in the wiki http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ratedVideo
720p TV connected via DVI->HDMI cable

I was running nVidia drivers version 185.something & was getting significant tearing with mplayer on fast action scenes so I did two things at the same time (never a good idea); I upgraded the drivers to v190.53 + I added the 'no composite' section to my xorg.conf that everyone recommends everywhere online. I also get this line in my xorg log:
Quote:
(**) Extension "Composite" is disabled

so I think I'm good on that latter front.

So, as I said, I had fairly bad tearing but now after making the two chgs above I get even worse tearing! For fast action scenes it is nearly unwatchable :-(

I have done a huge amount of googling but can't find anything more. Any suggestions anyone??

P.S. I have myth .21 running with VDPAU and it looks awesome!

I addressed my tearing issues by playing with the sync settings in nvidia-settings. I suggest you have a play with the settings in there. It wasnt always obvious which state each of the settings should be in. I suggest some trial and error. My setup is quite different however. I uses software decoding on a "AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+" with onboard graphics "nVidia Corporation C68 [GeForce 7050 PV / nForce 630a] (rev a2)".
