Hi,

I have been running r6 on a CRT. Just got a second hand sd sony bravia rear projection tv and am now running it through DVI.

I just used the R6 display menu to configure my computer. Looks like it left the monitor and screens sections mostly blank and lets it use edid to get the settings. Heres my xorg now....

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Unknown"
ModelName "Unknown"
# Hsync edid used
# Vertrefresh edid used
Option "DPMS" "false"
# Display size edid used
#INSERT MODELINE
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
Option "DPI" "100 x 100"
Option "NoLogo" "1"

#INSERT HERE
#doing the advanced
Option "ConnectedMonitor" ""
Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = centered, Dithering = enabled"
Option "DigitalVibrance" "0"
Option "UseEdidFreqs" "true"
Option "IgnoreEDID" "false"

#END OPTIONS

# Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
# Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = centered, Dithering = enabled"
# Option "DigitalVibrance" "0"
# Option "TransparentIndex" "0"
# Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "64"
# Option "CursorShadowXOffset" "4"
# Option "UseEdidFreqs" "True"
# Option "NvAGP" "1"
Option "NoLogo" "1"

#INSERT HERE
#doing the advanced
Option "ConnectedMonitor" ""
Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = centered, Dithering = enabled"
Option "DigitalVibrance" "0"
Option "UseEdidFreqs" "true"
Option "IgnoreEDID" "false"

#END OPTIONS

# Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
# Option "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = centered, Dithering = enabled"
# Option "DigitalVibrance" "0"
# Option "TransparentIndex" "0"
# Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "64"
# Option "CursorShadowXOffset" "4"
# Option "UseEdidFreqs" "True"
# Option "NvAGP" "1"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes ""
EndSubSection
EndSection

When it comes to xorg im not so hot and am worried as i do not want to fry anything. Should i be enabling any thing above and maybe adding some modelines.... or just leave it up to xorg to pick the best.

I look into the Xorg.0.log
it says that
"DFP modes are limited to 60 Hz refresh rate"

Im in Austrlia and we run at 50Hz is that going to be an issue. Will i get inferior pictures cause of it?

the native resolution is 1280x720.

Love any suggestions

David.

Hi David,
I'm not completely sure what you're asking, but re: the 50Hz vs 60Hz question, no, you are losing nothing at all at 50hz. Your TV can only use 50Hz signals anyway.

The reason is that the display frequency is to line up with that of your power, which is 240VAC at 50Hz. I wouldn't attempt to force a 60Hz modeline if I were you, because as you said you could fry the TV.

The refresh rate isn't as important as the number of pixels. Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdtv for more information.

Mike

Thanks for the reply. Had a read of that article so that was interesting.

My tv is a sd and the books says it displays 1280x720.

My problem is though that when I look at the xorg log file that it is using the It ends up using 1280x720 @ 60Hz. When it list through my usable resolotions it does list out 1280x720 at 50hz but is rejected.

A line in my log file says the following that DFP is limited to 60hz.

"DFP modes are limited to 60 Hz refresh rate"

Im acutally not sure why this is as i cant find any info on the net.

So My question is if its handling the 60hz and the resolotion is correct at 1280x720 then i should be ok.
