Post subject:  mythbox error implies mysql password encryption problem?

I am running R5.5. I am trying to connect to the backend with "mythbox" in XBMC. I get the error "Connect to mysql failed: Found EOF after auth...". I found some info that suggests the issue is that my password is encoded using the older, less secure method that mysql used to support. I checked mysql.cnf and it has the entry "old_passwords = false # inserted by debconf" and the password column in the mysql table is 41 bytes wide, suggesting that the high security password encryption method is being used under R5.5. Having said this, my database was upgraded many times and probably originated from a time when the less secure encryption methods were used. So now my questions:

1. Is it possible that I need to re-generate my mythtv password to encrypt it the new way?

2. If so, how do I do this, and will doing so cause any other problems?

3. Anyone else seen this problem and/or have any suggestions?

Thanks!
