Hi,

Firstly im not having ago at mythtv, I love it, my wife loves it....more then she loves me sometimes I think, lol.

However a mate of mine has a Media portal setup. One thing that he has that I liked was that if it was on the Main Menu for 10 minutes with no activity his computer would goto standby mode. Then to wake it up you just hit the power button on the remote and boom 10 seconds tops it would be awake. It would not goto sleep if you were watching a movie, listing to music or watcing tv.

Is this possible with Mythtv? I.E.

1. Goto standby mode on my Backend/Frontend when Myth is on the Main Screen for 10 minutes with no activity.
2. Wake on Usb with a push of the button on a remote.
3. Wake backend from one of my two other frontends in the house.

Im using R6 and I know of the shutdown and wakeup at a given time. However Id like the power savings of the standby on inactivity for 10 minutes. Aswell as the savings on my tv that would also goto standby.

Any guides out there...as i cant find any that work.

Again I have no plans on abandoning Mythtv... if i did my wife may abandon me. lol

Asking the hard questions I see. MediaPortal runs under Windows and Windows has its act together on power management and S3 sleep. Are you running a frontend/backend combo or a frontend only machine?

If you are running a combo setup, you should take a look at Mythwelcome.

For a frontend only box, you could put together a script to detect idle and go into S3 sleep. Of course, you will need a motherboard and IR receiver which supports and is configured for (USB) wakeup.

Unfortunately, this is no easy task. Or at least this stuff does not work out-of-the-box.

Thanks for the reply.

I have been battling through. Found my kernel log sais it only supports s4 so am starting with just trying to put to sleep manually and wake up. I can get it to sleep...waking up is another story. But my wakealarm sets nicely.

Will keep trying.

If your HW supports it, getting mythwelcome to work with sleep has been done:
