Both are in testing and should be out before the end of the week. The only thing new with R4V5 is the inclusion of 0.16, recompiled ivtv (stable), install scripts for nvidia 6111 and Radeon. If you plan to auto upgrade, don't forget to backup first. I downgraded from the R5 Alpha w/o issue. As long as you backup first, you should have no issue.
XvMC debs are based on older nVidia driver, so if you want to use the latest nVidia drivers, you may need to recompile.

Is this just a beta or something for R5 or is R5 not coming out now? I'm just wondering. Thanks for all you do Cesman.

Not a beta, the next release in the R4 line. R5 is still planned.

I think that would be jumping to an unwarranted conclusion. At a guess he's just filling a gap and getting some mileage on his 0.16 debs. Since R5 is supposed to have so much new stuff in it I would expect that there is a lot of testing going on and that takes time. In the meanwhile there are users champing at the bit for 0.16 and it's a comparetively easy update for him. He's already refreshed R4 at least 4 or 5 times after all...

At any rate I now know one major project I'll be doing this weekend... ;-)

(Hmmm, this seems to have crossed Cesman's reply in flight... At least now you've got a definitive answer!)

recompiled ivtv (stable)

just curious why was it recompiled? was there a flaw in the last compiling? or something else?

Are you including ivtv/bttv patches to support the new Hauppauge PVR tuners (idx=68, 85)?... I have some diff files to patch the kernel/ivtv sources of V4 if you want to include them.

It was recompiled because there is an issue w/ having to recompile it w/ R4V4.1. It is the latest stable release, no patches. I tried one of the newer releases but had issues with it and sound, so I stuck w/ the stable which worked w/o issue.

So if I'm already running 6111 and I don't use ivtv or xvmc can I just get the 0.16 debs with apt-get instead of dowloading an iso and burning it?
