Got the 0.16 debs installed, but now my S/PDIF digital audio output is busted. It is not recognizing ALSA:Digital as a valid output for audio settings. Trying to watch live TV or a recording gives me the "unable to create audio output" message and offers to let me watch TV without sound.

Searched the mythtv-user list and found this:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... sers/83692

which says this is the problem and fix:

It seems myth really can't do without OSS. I recompiled myth 0.16 with both OSS and ALSA support and now I get sound again.

Are the 0.16 debs set up for both OSS and ALSA? Thanks.

I dunno if this is your problem, but on my system the string that worked was ALSA:digital, not ALSA:Digital. I haven't upgraded to R4V5 yet, so I may be talking out of my hat.

I remember you mentioning the case sensitivity, but tried it both ways and no luck. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Question for cesman: Are the 0.16 debs compiled with both OSS and ALSA support?

(per the quote in my original message)

I just upgraded via debs and had the same initial problem with no sound on TV playback via ALSA:digital. Oddly enough, digital out worked great on MythMusic and MythVideo. On a lark I tried specifiying /dev/adsp as the output device under Setup/General and now TV works great.

That did it! Thanks! (Wow, two for two at 5:30AM, not bad!)

But is changing that to /dev/adsp/ from ALSA:(whatever) still using ALSA? It certainly doesn't seem to be using that .asoundrc like 0.15.1 used to.

I don't know for sure if it is using ALSA, but I do know the output is digital. My receiver lights up differently for digital vs. analog input signals, and it's definitely getting a digital stream. Since it works, I didn't really pursue it any further.

Something mush have changed w/ 0.16 an ALSA. When I tried to compile w/ ALSA, I got no sound. So the debs are compiled for OSS.
