I've got my box set up on the university network, and I'd like to use the web interface as it's a bitch to use the remote for scheduling and stuff. However, I don't want it exposed to the network so that anyone can logon and change programming schedules and delete data. Is there anyway that I can password protect the web interface so that I'm the only one that can access it?
Thanks

Yes, it is possible. This has been discussed here and on the MythTV archive. Please search either for the required solution.

A KnoppMyth box on a Uni network sounds like a hackers paradise to me. The system is about as wide open as Les Nessman's office. If you don't put it behind a firewall of some kind you're doomed to be cracked.

I wouldn't say that... It isn't a Windows box after all. ;) But you are accurate, he should firewall his boxen.

I know this doesn't solve the security problems which are many, and mostly by design, but there is a howto over on the wiki for passwording mythweb. step by step.

Second thing I tried was "securing mythweb"...

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=212

Maybe I should quit my regular job and give expensive 3 day seminars on how to search the web. Or better still, hire a bunch of underpaid and under appreciated Library Science types, and have them do it, while I sit back and rake in the big bucks. ;-)
