I'd like to research using an A/V portable for playback of tv shows away from the home net, e.g. at the gym during my cardio workouts. Has anyone else done something similar? I'd like a recommendation on a unit, considering codec-compatibility and linux-connectivity. I assume in addition to a mount/dismount script for the portable, I'd probably need to use some transcoding scripts for format, screen size and storage limitations of the portable. FYI, I'm using a PVR-350 currently, w/ analog US cable. Comments welcome. ![]() -brendan |

You can always burn them to DVD and use a portable DVD player... |

I don't know about the most mythtv friendly unit. But I have an Archos Jukebox 20 that has a small screen . The problem is it cannot play mpeg2 directly and I have to convert it. And I don't want to carry a hard disk based player to fitness center. Archos has a new one. You may want to look at this - you can directly record from cable without going thro' mythtv or anything else. http://www.archos.com/products/overview/av400_series.html Only thing - it will make your wallet somewhat lighter. ![]() |
