My early results running 0.14 from debs on my backend and fronent machines: flying colors! No issues with installations :) Couldn't crash either machine. All modules I tested worked just fine.

Keep up the great work guys! We all appreciate how rapidly you guys got the 0.14 debs out and available for our use! 1000 Thank Yous!

Is it possible to upgrade using the .14 debs even I am still just using the stock R4 packages (.12)? Do I have to upgrade to .13 first? I've been waiting for R5 to be released but now I'm thinking that I'll just upgrade myself? Anybody see a problem with skipping .13?

I upgraded from stock R4 straight to the 0.14 debs and no real problems. one packagename was wrong or something but nothing big. that's why they are in beta is to find small issues like that to be fixed or documented.

I take it you just followed the steps outlined in Cecil's message. I'm new to debian and debs so I want to make sure I have a path to follow since this is my first time doing it. Did you need to do anything different from what was mentioned?

well I installed all the new debs, but one of them compained cause it conflicted with an old one, so I just removed the old one and reinstalled that one. I think it was the mythdvd because the old one was called mythdvd-lirc so it didn't just upgrade like the rest.

I have a problem after I installed the knoppmyth .14 debs. I try to start mythfrontend and get an rld error looking for libxvmcNVIDIA.so.1 (or something close - I am at work).

I do not have an nvidia card. What can I do? Are there different debs to install?

Thanks,
John

Then you need to remove the xvmc deb and install another. The XvMC debs were built against nVidia's 4363 driver.

Which xvmc should I load and from where? Or should I build it from source?

I guess i should ask "Is xmvc in Myth or from another library?"

Thanks,
John

If you don't have a Nvidia card then you shouldn't load any XvMC as Nvidia is the only one at this point that has XvMC support. so remove the one you installed and install the same thing just without xvmc in it.
