Since there isn't a suggestion/requests forum, I thought I'd post this to hints & tips. For a really polished PVR it would be cool to have a bootsplash. I've been struggling with getting this set up on my knoppmyth (R4) system using the instructions at http://www.bootsplash.org (the docs are kind of vague on a few points, and I'd like to figure out how to output it to the PVR-350's framebuffer so I don't see a black screen while waiting for X to start.) However, it seems that one debian enthusiast has made some packages available. So... perhaps it would be pretty easy to add a nifty bootsplash to R5. It looks like you'd need to add a new deb source, install a few packages, and run make-kpkg. (Also, it seems that there's a conflict with sysv-rc-bootsplash and the rc or sysv-rc that comes with R4-- you might have to upgrade your system to unstable to get it to install.) deb sources: Code: deb http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free bootsplash packages: Code: apt-get install -t unstable bootsplash kernel-patch-bootsplash sysv-rc-bootsplash
Here's part of the thread from debian-mentors, for reference: http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2003/debian-mentors-200312/msg00186.html |
