Is Chrony in the KnoppMyth distribution? I'd check but I've already installed it. While installing, some messages made me think it was already there. Was it? |

hardly seems necessary to me. Coming from Windows, I'm used to my machines' clocks loosing minutes a day. I'm anticipating my MythBox to slowly veer off schedule and start missing the first or last few minutes of my shows. Is there already something in MythTV that keeps that from happening? |

Just set up your time to be set using ntp: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... hlight=ntp |

actually I'm pretty sure ntp is setup out of the box, because I was trying to adjust my time to get my recordings to start at the right time, and had to turn it off, and I never set it up. |

No, chrony isn't installed. You do have to set NTP. |

So why did it keep changing my time on me untill I removed the symlink out of /etc/rc3.d ? Was driving me crazy. I guess the tv stations in my area don't subscribe to ntp or the atomic clock or anything like that, and I was getting the last couple of minutes choped off my recordings so I would change my time and the next day presto it's right back. Took me a while to track down the ntp cause I wasn't expecting it to be in there, but once I removed it my clock stoped changing on me. |

The setup you have to do for ntp to work correctly involves choosing an NTPD server to sync to. There are a variey of ntpd servers distributed around the world, and you are best off finding one local to you and using it as your server, unless you know that your local stations are using some specific time server. In that case you might check with your local broadcasters and see if they provide a time server as well, or if your ISP provides a time server you are comfortable with. If you run the command: dpkg reconfig ntp-simple it should give you the opportunity to set up a specific time server. -Rusty |
