Post subject:  Putting NUV files back into recorded programs?

I have an archive copy of a NUV file for a recording that I copied off to my file server. I have since deleted the program from withing MythTV. Is it possible to "put it back" so it can be watched via MythTV? I don't think this is possible since my understanding is that the database info on the show is gone once I "delete" it from within MythTV. However, if anyone can tell me what to expect if I drop it back into the TV dir, I'd appreciate it. I dont' want to try it only to find I've corrupted the database. My setup is working too well to screw up on something stupid now!

Thanks,

twylie

If you've already deleted it out of the database then no putting it back in the directory will not add it back to the mythtv interface. However it shouldn't hurt anything either it will just be ignored. In the future if you want to export one for backup you should use nuvexport which gives you a .nuv file and a .sql file so you can add the show back to the database.

If it was recorded on a pvr250/350 I would suggest just changing the extention to .mpg and putting it in the video folder, at least then you will be able to see and play it although all date/time etc info will be gone.

Great. Thanks for the information. I will read up on nuvexport. I also have some reading to do on possibly editing and using cutpoints along with transcoding. For non-critical stuff I may want to see down the road, this looks like a viable option. Storage isn't an issue for now, but eventually my current file server (1TB) will fill up between video and audio.

I am using a PVR-250 and renaming *.mpg works great for viewing on the Windows boxes. Currently, my capture (480x480) and bitrate (4500) are set too high to easily stream these over 802.11. Long term, I want to use the pretty up script and add to the script so the pretty files are moved offline via cron and renamed to MPG in the process. Ahh, what great fun this has been.

Again, thanks for the prompt response Xsecrets!

Although it won't fix the problem completely, you could just place the file in the MythVideo folder if I'm not mistaken.

i have a similar problem. i now have some .nuv files that i had previously recorded on another mythtv box in my video folder, however right now they launch and play w/ xine, my default media player. i know i can specify which program to use, i just don't know the command. what is the program that plays back .nuv files in myth?

TIA.

Myth plays back it own .nuv files. If the files were cretead w/ a PVR-x50 this is a MPEG-2 file and any program that plays MPEG-2 should be able to play them back. There is a patch for MPlayer that can play back MPEG-4 and RTJPEG .nuv. You can speciify what you want to use to playback videos for MythVideo.
