Some people are going to freak out when they read this spec. OMG OVERKILL WTF BBQ!

Yes, it is overkill. So was the Core 2 Duo I purchased to do the job, unfortunately, that system came with ICH8 IDE controllers and no end of pain getting Linux of any kind booted on it.

Despite great help from Cecil and others, I decided I wanted a HTPC more than I wanted to debug drivers so I swapped my desktop (the Opteron) for the Core 2 Duo. That process took a few days to juggle all the disks around. The A8N32-SLI has tons of I/O (2xPATA, 6xSATA including the rear external SATA port) whereas the Core 2 board is fairly limited (1xPATA, 4xSATA).

My what a pleasant experience installing RD51 was on the ASUS. 10 minute Auto install, one reboot, 5 minutes of basic EIT tuner configuration and channel scan and wham, welcome to live HDTV on Myth!

I can't decide between LCD, plasma or projector for the primary front-end I'm building. I might get a cheap 16:9 projector for the back-end to give me something to watch in the shed when I'm working.

Still shopping for ideas on the remotes.

Cheers

Leigh

Does it count when you spent two weeks discovering you had the wrong hardware and did several test runs on the replacement? :-)
