# Video type: SDTV # Type of system: combined front- and back-end # Noise level: I can tell it's on until I play some media # CASE: old 'Tiny Computers' mini ATX # PSU: JEANTECH ATX 350W # MOTHERBOARD: ECS GS7610 # CPU: AMD Athlon™ 3000 # RAM: 2Gb PC3200 DDR 400MHz (not needed - uses around 512k) # CPU HEATSINK: standard with MOBO/CPU bundle # NORTHBRIDGE HEATSINK: # CD/DVD-RW: MATSHITADVD-ROM SR-8585F, ATAPI 32X DVD-ROM drive, 512kB Cache, UDMA(33) # HDD: Hitachi HDT725032VLAT80, 300G ATA DISK drive # GRAPHICS CARD: 256M ASUS EN7300GT SILENT (nVidia® GeForce 7300GT GPU) # SOUNDCARD: onboard (SiS SI7012) # TUNER CARD: Hauppage WinTV-HVR1100 (hybrid analogue/DVB-TV) # REMOTE CONTROL: A415-HPG (with HVR1100) UK readers might be interested to know that the motherboard and CPU came as a bundle from Maplin for £50, which didn't seem too bad. Total cost was less than £200, but I already had a DVD-ROM and case. To tune in Freeview on the HVR1100 I had to supply the frequency of one of the transports. After that the other transports were located, but needed to be scanned individually - I couldn't just do a full scan. One word of warning - I started off with monitor and TV cloned output. Bad mistake - TV out was very jagged for fast horizontal pans. Disabling the CRT for X sorted this out. I'd like to tailor the remote at some point, but the main buttons work just fine. I've got an IR keyboard so this isn't a priority. |
