Post subject:  Lost sound on Live TV and new recordings - SOLVED !!!

My mythbox was running flawless. today when I played back a recorded show (from this morning) there was no sound. I stop the play back, went to live tv and there is no sound in live tv mode either.

Checked the audio out cable from sat box, cable is good and connected to PVR350 audio input.

In frontend setup/general menu, I have the following:
audio output device: /dev/dsp
Passthrough output device: Default
Max audio channels: Stereo
Upmix: Passive
Use internal volume controls checked
Mixer device: /dev/mixer
mixer controls: PCM
master mixer volume: 96
PCM Mixer volume: 96

I have not made any changes to setup/configuration OR applied any update/patches to the box.

What I do have one recording that started with sound then 5 minutes in to recording the sound became a screeching noise and 10 minutes later complete silence. After that all recordings are sound less.

Any idea what is causing this.

I have deleted and setup capture card in mythtv-setup, did not help.

Music plays fine, dvd/avi etc play fine with audio. That tells me that audio issue is with pvr-350 card.

I am not using pvr-350 tv out.

Help is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

SOLVED:
XvMCConfig file was missing from /etc/X11
I created a new file and poited it to libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1

Bingo...Live tv is happy, cpu load is normal and no more freezing.

more to this issue,

now live tv video freezes about 5 minutes into watching. Recordings are freezing too and if I don't kill the frontend process, the whole box locks up.

All fans are working... could this be harddrive issue but 5 minutes into live tv..always.. makes me think something else is wrong. Hard drive activity leds pattern has changed during live tv/recording. It used to slow blink... now it is pretty rapid.

See tjc's R5.5 Hints where he mentions
Quote:
4.1) RRD monitoring - With certain motherboards using mbmon to capture CPU/Mobo temperatures and fan speeds can cause recording/playback glitches. If you see recorded or live tv playback stuttering every five minutes check this. The rrd configuration dialog takes a conservative course and turns these off by default to prevent this, but it may reoccur based on user overrides.
