Post subject:  Dell Precision 370
This is not the first post of this model in Tier 1, however, my box may be slightly different from the other poster's (Das Hammer) report. I chose this box based on Das Hammer's report because this was inexpensive, quick setup and low risk (of hardware incompatibility). This box is will be going to a family member, so reliability and cost are key.

Although the WinTV-PVR-150 26582 LF in known to require a tweek in xorg.conf, the Dell is Tier 1, so I am going to recommend it based on the economics. Not sure how energy efficient this box is, however, my previous box rang in at over $400.

I bought the box used through eBay and the case is less than pretty. That being said, my WinTV-PVR-150 26582 LF tuner had not arrived, so I installed R6.02 to verify serial ports, NIC, Video and Sound. At the time I did not know that this tuner required the xorg.conf tweek. So I ended up installing R6.02 twice and then installed R6.04. The box opens easily and tuner installation was relatively easy. Installation of the WinTV-PVR-150 26582 LF requires a change to xorg.conf, otherwise the keyboard becomes dysfunctional.

This box was bought for $100 and the tuner was bought for $11 from eBay. The box will be outfitted with video card for S-video and a remote would round out the system. 80GB is small, so eventually adding a 3TB will be done. The core hardware is now in place and as the peripheral hardware is added, I will try to remember to update this report.

This is another thumbs up for this setup. I was looking for a cheap HD frontend for the bedroom and found the posts from Das hammer and gatorback.

All in all I am very happy with it. Got it for $70 on eBay and bought a $30 GEForce 210 card. Had to wrestle with the video card to get audio over HDMI but other then that it just works.

I found the fan to be a little loud for a bedroom setup. S3 sleep works real well and that solved the problem while sleeping but it was still a little annoying during watching. I replaced the case fan with a $11 Silenx fan and now I cant tell if it is on or not. One problem with this dell however is it wants a fan with a proprietary plug with feedback to the motherboard. This fan didn't do that so I need to hit F1 during boot up. Not a big deal for me since I leave it on all the time and use sleep.
