After a very long debating (with myself) whether to upgrade or not to upgrade my almost perfect setup of R4V5, I finally took the plunge this last weekend and believe me it was worth the wait. Thanks for all their effort to make our life a little bit easier and better.

After making sure I have the complete backup etc, I did the auto upgrade and everything went smoothly. The only problems were due to mine. To fix the remote control problem, by mistake I reinstalled lirc and that hosed my system and I had to reinstall twice.

Anyway things are working a lot better now. Things to install/fix after upgrade. Make sure to read relevant posts.
Remote control - make sure lircd is in the bootup script.
Nvidia - install nvidia drivers.
CD/DVD - make sure the device is linked to /dev/hd? than /dev/scdo and has the right owner:group.

On a side note I installed the 0.17 mythfronend on my G5 and it is working great. Again thanks to Cecil and Dale for their wonderful job and keep it coming. :D

My setup :

IntelĀ® P4 2.8AGHz (533 FSB) Boxed CPU
ECS 848P-A 800MHZ FSB Motherboard (with overclocking support)
384MB DDR
WD 40GB (OS, /cache, swap)
Seagate ST3160023A-RK 160GB (/myth - xfs partition)
Hauppauge PVR 350
DVD/CD-RW
Nvidia MX440SE - with TV out

Hello there,

I am just about to do the same upgrade as yourself as I have the same hardware, but I am unsure of how you completed the backup.

Is this just from the myth front end menu ?? as I understand that an upgrade won't work unless a backup is done first .... Does this backup retain all the recording schedules and the SQL backup of my saved recordings ??

Sorry about the NOOB factor of this question

From the Mainmenu -> KnoppMyth -> Backup. It wouldn't be much of a backup if it didn't do as you asked. ;)
