My system specs

Athlon64 2800+
chaintech MK8M800 ( VIA K8M800 +on board S3 UniChrome Pro )
Hauppauge WinTV-D
512MB ram
30gb HD ( 20GB for video )
CDRW

Clean install of R5A12.ISO
Video OUT via SVGA out to my 27in LCD

Autoinstall worked great.
LiveTV FF, Pause, Rev part seem to work, less audio
I just tested OTA Analog and Analog cable.

Here is my input on this: this is the frist time I have used this...

1. A walk-through for post install setup ( MythTV setup menus ) needs be made.

2. There is no clear way to get to the MythTV setup menus from the MythTV menus after to add your card and channels and reboot in to MythTV.
after it's all setup
---you can't change tuner card
---you can't add channels

3. what I see is needed
-- OSD in LIVETV mode
-- type in a channel number + return/enter should take you to that channel
-- option to make my own guide
-- WatchTV sub menus (options Recorded TV list, Live TV )
-- option to scan and add Channels
-----what to scan format PAL, NTSC, ATSC, etc...
-----what to scan for OTA, Cable, DVB, etc...
-----which tuners to scan with All,1, 1+2, 1+2+3 etc...
-- a x64(AMD64) version
-- more themes
-- more card types should be listed
-- more wireless support

it's going in the right direction.
keep up the good work

In answer to 2: in an xterm type mythtv-setup and it will run the setup menus again. You can get an xterm by exiting mythtv and clicking on the background.

thx Greg. guess I've spent too much time in Windows, lol.

I am trying to use this as a novice user, "install it and it should just work idea". Something just need to clearer post install.

Why can't it just pick the right settings for my WinTV-D?
or in the Card type it should be listed?

Channel changing seems to be broke in MythTV.
I dropped out of MythTV and clicked on XawTV works fine there.
i was wondering why I was stuck on "everyone loves r... on CBS", lol.

For #1 - Several exist if you search the forums and the Wiki.

For #2 - What Greg said.

For #3 - Most of this is already there. Try hitting the M key or the "Menu" button on your remote. As for channel scanning... for normal NTSC or PAL channels the strategy is to have a frequency table and program guide provide that information. There is a scanning mechanism for ATSC and possibly DVB. Creating your own program guide is perfectly possible, all you've got to do is insert the data into the DB. If you search the forum you can find several threads about modifying the program guide data.

Bottom line, you didn't do enough research. Like most Free Software projects this is a self service joint, and the more you put into it the more you'll get out of it.

Interesting. I didn't know that the Hauppauge WinTV-D ran on linux. Are you getting the signal OTA?

I'm using a TERK TV-55 and the cheap antenna that came with my WinTV-D, plus I can use my cable signal from my cable company. The TERK TV-55 is normally connect to my RCA DTC-100 HD box...I have not tried to see if the ASTC ( digital ) part works under linux still. I had my Win-TV-D card working on Linux almost 4 years ago.

later
