Nice. Time for me to upgrade to a PVR-500 card.

It's a tight fit to get the PVR-500 card in. I'd recommend putting some electrical tape on the hard drive caddy so you don't have the back of the card scraping on the aluminum. Probably wouldn't hurt it, but just to be safe. :-)
It's really nice to have two tuners, though!

This looks like a nice overall package. I went out and priced it -- quick and dirty -- via PriceWatch, thought I'd share my findings:

$307 Shuttle barebones system
$216 400GB HD
$135 PVR500
$99 Athlon XP2800+
$34 512MB PC2700 (2x$17 for 256MB sticks)
$53 Pioneer DVR109

$844 Total (shipping included in above prices)

(Not having to tweak a KnoppMyth install.... Priceless)

Well done! How does this match up against your outlay? Did you purchase all of this new for this project?

I bought everything when it was cheap...

I got the SN41G2V2 on eBay for around $225.
Paid $187 for the 400GB drive (employee discount at Best Buy)
Paid $112 for the PVR-500 ($30 off when you sign up for a buy.com credit card)
I'd recommend getting a faster processor if you can afford it... the SN41G2V2 will take up to a 3200+. 2800+ is more than adequate, but if you burn a lot of DVD's (and I do) extra speed is nice.
Memory I bought on eBay as well (used Crucial PC2700) for around $25.
Pioneer DVR109 was a special on Newegg for 48.99+free shipping.

So... if you're willing to wait for good deals, you can build this at a decent cost.

I have a SN41G2 system but with a PVR-350 and 2400 CPU. I have a problem when the show I am watching is mostly a dark scene the playback stutters and drastically slows down. Have you seen this? I don't get this if I use the PVR-350's video out (framebuffer) but then the system is not stable so I prefer the slowness at times over system crashes.

I am wondering if the faster CPU is helping or the PVR-500. I figured it was the shuttle SN41G2 video card couldn't handle it.

The 2400 should handle video without any issues... I haven't noticed any stuttering, and I've been known to be transcoding a DVD while recording two channels and watching previously recorded shows... Do you have XVMC enabled? If you do, you'll want to turn that off, because it only causes problems with the nVidia card in the SN41G2.

Thanks for the tip. I checked my settings and found that I wasn't using XVMC but I was using deinterlace. I disabled that and a couple other minor (at least I think they were minor) and the video doesn't stutter anymore.

I had lived with that for sometime. Glad that is fixed. The shuttle XPC has been nice and I am happier with it now. Just wish it had gigabit on the motherboard. Now if I could just figure out why the Front end I run on a 2nd computer from CD can't see the master backend. Supposed to be easy...
