That sounds awesome. Are you running some other distro that handles SATA better? And is it performing fine on 100MBit? If so, are you recording/playing HD or just SD?

Currently my disk array is just an old beater box running gentoo with an onboard serial ata controller. I have 4 drives connected to that to make the 1TB array.

I am considering buying one of the Infrant ReadyNAS appliances for an array but havn't bitten the bullet yet

http://www.infrant.com/

You can buy an empty ReadyNAS NV array at newegg for about $700.

I have done lots of research on other external NASs but the most of the others have speed or stability issues (eg bufaloe).

Currenty all my recordings are SD but I am about to buy an HD card. Most of my array space is used by my dvd library.
