Hello all,

Just wanted to help those of you who have a R5A16 version working and wish to have bootsplash progress bar enabled.
I assume that you have a working bootsplash environment (I mean your silent image appears at boot but without the progress bar progressing (!) )

First you have to know that the kernel within this version is already patched for bootsplash. The only thing that is missing are the init scripts (/etc/init.d/rc and /etc/init.d/rcS) that should be patched:

Code:
echo "deb http://www.bootsplash.de/files/debian unstable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get install sysv-rc-bootsplash

Or you can download the patches here:
http://www.bootsplash.de/files/misc/rc-bootsplash.diff
http://www.bootsplash.de/files/misc/rcS-bootsplash.diff
and apply them :

patch -p1 /etc/init.d/rc < rc-bootsplash.diff
patch -p1 /etc/init.d/rc < rc-bootsplash.diff

Then create the 'current' link to enable the progres bar:

ln -s /etc/bootsplash/themes/KnoppMyth current

And also, but I can not say if it works without it, you have to download the /sbin/splash.sh script which is missing on the original R5A16.

Download it here :
ftp://ftp.openbios.org/pub/bootsplash/r ... .7.tar.bz2

or apt-get it with
Code:
apt-get install bootsplash

Then extract the splash.sh script in the archive (Scripts/splash.sh) and move it to /sbin/splash.sh

In case of pb, your original rc and rcS scripts are backed up at the same location (*.orig)

For those of you who dont know how to setup bootsplash, I can also add the steps.

Enjoy
Hacen

How does this fall under hardware tier 2?

If you've installed KnoppMyth and had edit any file to get things working. Please explain what you did to get things working.

I have installed KnoppMyth and edited bootsplash scripts to make it work.

But if you think it should be somewhere else, just tell me because it is not clear.

The forum header for this category is "Hardware Recommendations" So it would imply, Use this hardware and make these config changes and it works great.. However I'm sure someone using R5A16 may need this info..
