Post subject:  K8NGM2 with 6150 video, onboard sound, wintv pvr250, remote

With help from multiple other threads, I got R5C7 to work with the following parts:

# Video type: SDTV
# Type of system: combined front- and back-end
# Noise level: I can tell it's on until I play some media

# CASE: Silverstone Lascala SST-LC13-S
# PSU: SeaSonic S12-380
# MOTHERBOARD: K8NGM2-FID
# CPU: A64-3700+
# RAM: 2x512 Crucial Ballistix PC3200
# CPU HEATSINK: stock AMD quad heatpipe for A64 X2
# NORTHBRIDGE HEATSINK: passive
# CD/DVD-RW: Sony DRU-510
# HDD: Maxtor Diamondmax 10 300gig
# GRAPHICS CARD: Onboard nvidia 6150
# SOUNDCARD: Onboard 7.1 sound
# TUNER CARD: Hauppauge wintv pvr-250
# REMOTE CONTROL: Microsoft remote model 1039 with winMCE usb IR receiver/transmitter

Not in database section, but also using onboard lan hooked to a 1GB switch, lan, and to internet through broadband router. Monitor is Dell 1905FP. Speakers are Cambridge Soundworks DTT-2500 digital 5.1 with dolby and DTS decoding - old and limited by only 1 digital input and only 4-speaker analog inputs instead of full 5.1 or 7.1 analog/digital input, but it works.

Here's how:
Installed R5C7. I have a 1280x1024 native lcd, so I installed it with a video=1280x1024 option.
On bootup, it failed to run Xwindows and aborts to a login. Logged in as root.
Ran netcardconf. This was the key to getting things working without pain.
Pulled this from another thread:

get a shell and login as su or root,
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
cd to your favorite download directory,
wget http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linu ... 2-pkg1.run
then execute the script
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1.run

Reboot, and Xwindows runs fine.

Sound didn't work at all, so I used the instructions by syracuse from another thread:

To get the sound to work (Realtek 880) for both stereo and 5.1 coax out:
a) open a term window (i.e. Alt-x),
b) become super-user (su)
c) cd /usr/src
d) wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/a ... c5.tar.bz2
e) tar jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.11rc5.tar.bz2
f) cd alsa-driver-1.0.11rc5
g) ./configure
h) make
i) make install

The sound worked after following the above instructions plus a reboot. Make sure you find the mixer and turn up both volumes to 90% or more.

I have a winTV PVR250 and it wouldn't detect properly the first installation, but it did somehow the second time. Likewise, channel scan wouldn't work until I ran through the card and source selection process a couple of times. It's as if selections would not activate after making them, so I had to enter and exit the entire setup section each time I made a config change.

I didn't even bother to configure the remote but it worked. I said "no" to having a serial ir blaster, but the USB IR sensor auto-detected and worked without any configuration.

Could you fill in the template with the rest of your hardware details from the topic sticky posting? http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10956

Thanks...
