# Video type: SDTV
# Type of system: combined front- and back-end
# Noise level: I can tell it's on until I play some media

# CASE: Enlight case
# PSU: came with the case
# MOTHERBOARD: MSI K8NGM2
# CPU: Athlon 64 3800+
# RAM: 2 Kingston 256MB DDR400 PC3200
# CPU HEATSINK: Zalman Cooler
# NORTHBRIDGE HEATSINK:
# CD/DVD-RW: LG DVD
# HDD: Seagate 750GB
# GRAPHICS CARD: MSI 6600 PCI-E
# SOUNDCARD: onboard
# TUNER CARD: Hauppauge PVR-150
# REMOTE CONTROL: Hauppauge dogbone(came with PVR-150)

Only had two problems out of the box. Had to recompile the sound drivers, and add a config setting for the tuner card. Also, the tv won't display if there's a monitor plugged in.

This is how I recompiled the sound drivers. (taken from here with a change in driver version)

a) open a term window (i.e. Alt-x),
b) become super-user (su)
c) cd /usr/src
d) wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/a ... 12.tar.bz2
e) tar jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.12.tar.bz2
f) cd alsa-driver-1.0.12
g) ./configure
h) make
i) make install

The sound worked after following the above instructions plus a reboot. Make sure you find the mixer and turn up both volumes to 90% or more.

And this is how I configured the tuner card.

I had to put "options ivtv tuner=50" in /etc/modprobe.conf

I also had no sound with ZSNES. I was able to get the sound to work when I ran ZSNES as root, but then I managed to break that. I'll post again once I get it working.

I just swapped out my 200G drive for one of the new Seagate 750G drives. I did a reinstall with no backups(didn't have any shows I was worried about). What's interesting is that when I did the reinstall(using the same burned cd), I didn't have to do anything to get the sound working. I still have to set the tuner type, though. Food for thought.

Did another reinstall jus' an hour ago. Installed R5E50. Only had a few issues. One was the 150/VBI issue. I fixed that by changing my recording resolution to 720x480. The other problem I'm having is that my channels wouldn't add from the listing. I had to add them through a channel scan. So I don't have the correct channel names. Haven't figured out how to fix it yet.
