Man, what a beast ... a slow beast with a horrible stuttering problem.

Old Gateway GP7-500, 160gig IDE HD, GeForce 5200 w/ TV Out, PVR-150, DVD burner, CD-R/RW.

This machine (which has 192 megs of RAM) can just barely record TV. Watching TV on it is an adventure, with all the skipping and the 15 second delay from the live broadcast.

I tried my best to get R5E50 installed, but it just wouldn't work. The MySQL databases would get all screwy, and I'm not Linux-savvy enough to copy log files. Basically, I would get to the part of the installation process where I needed to set my Capture Cards, etc. and it wouldn't save anything. Alt-Tabbing to the XTerm window just showed a bajillion MySQL errors flying by. I figured I might try installing R5D1 and then upgrading -- the installation of R5D1 went so smoothly, I did a backup, then an Auto-Update of R5E50 and got the same errors again.

For the R5D1 install, the only changes I had to make were to add the following to modprobe.conf:

Quote:
options ivtv tuner=50

... since it wasn't recognizing the PVR-150, and then make the following additions to XF86Config-4:

Quote:
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
DisplaySize 271 203

... to make viewing on my TV a little more pleasant, as I had a hard time in the setup screens reading the text.

Basically, it's set up as an additional component to replace my VCR and DVD player. I watch TV normally, then just switch to this to watch recorded programs.

I still have a bit of tweaking to do (the color is a bit dim, and yes I enabled Xv controls but I'm still messing with it, about to check the nVidia settings). I won't ask those questions here, because I'm sure they're answered elsewhere.

Thanks for the awesome software and the many, many replies to previous posts -- I had a lot of questions answered with some basic searches. :)

Could you fill in the template with the rest of your hardware details from the topic sticky posting? http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10956

Thanks...
