A big thanks to the creators of MythTv. I have very little Linux experience and was a little leary of comitting a whole system to it, but I am glad I did. It couldn't have been easier.

That being said. . . I had a few hiccups, most of which were easily solved by searching the forum. Here are the "gotchas" I came across.

System Specs
AMD Athlon 1.2GHz
MSI K7Master
256MB PC2100 RAM
Hauppauge PVR 250 (picked up dirt cheap from Staples btw)

1) In order to get "WatchTV" to show anything I had to put the following line into /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv
change tuner type=2 to tuner type =39

2) In order to be able to change channels off of channel 3 (and this was a "smack forehead" moment) please note: It is one thing to create an account with Zap2It, but quite another if you don't set up your specific channel lineup. Once I decided to log in and set up my account, mythfilldatabase suddenly worked. Go figure :D

3) LIRC. This was the most annoying problem. I found the solution was simple, but you had to ignore a lot of the recommendations. I tried a lot of the solutions, but it came down to just adding the following two lines to the bottom of /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh
modprobe lirc_i2c
/usr/local/sbin/lircd

That's it (for now). I am still figuring out the RSS feeds (downloading a new news-source file didn't work), and mythBrowser, mythGame does not work. All said and done, the install was painless. If it wasn't for point #2, which was a stupid oversight on my part, it took approximately 2 hours to get it running the way I liked.

I recommend that people check out http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=382 as it helped me out lots.

You should actually be able to comment that line out or remove it, since the tuner type detection has gotten much better with current versions of ivtv...
