Finally! after a bit of reading here its working GREAT!
Had to do the typical R5A16 stuff ("update-rc.d lirc defaults") to get the remote working as well as update the path for mplayer in the video section, plus the other stuff so DVD's work properly.

Impressions and performance:
Awesome.. i mainly use it for movies and ripping my movie collection to the HD so they're easily accessible. TV is lacking and there's not much I want to watch which is unfortunate because i've got 2 tuners now. It seems the old matrox card can't really handle 720P and 1080i video being thrown at it.. it drops frames in the HD stuff. Eventually i'll replace it with an Nvidia 6600GT
