For whatever reason, it finally decided to start working and I'm pretty sure it is all thanks to the IVTV-0.4.0 stable release from the weekend. Step: 1. Installed KnoppMyth and let it do its thing. 2. Install IVTV-0.4.0 Drivers 3. Use the ivtvfwextract.pl from the IVTV utilities folder to extract the required files from the PVR firmware .exe, then copy HcwMakoA.ROM from the install cd into /lib/modules (I read that while having both the .ROM and running the extractor may not be necessary, it can't hurt) 4. Get frustrated and leave it turned off for a night (8ish hours) (Edit: So maybe only ~10 minutes is necessary) 5. This is where it gets me. Up until this point it wouldn't actually tune. Once I got on this morning, got MythTV to connect to zap2it and downloaded the programming information, lo and behold, it suddenly decided to work, perfectly. I was under the impression it would work without the programmming information but meh. The quality isn't pristine, but I suppose on par with my tv for the most part, probably due to the fact that most of the hardware isn't top notch. Hauppauge PVR-500MCE Abit NF7-S2G mobo (nForce 2 chipset) 512 mb DDR-400 AMD Sempron 2500+ Asus V7700 (Geforce 2 GTS I believe?) So my question is, does it actually have to have connected an downloaded the program info for it to tune to the right channels, at least while using MythTV? I know you can use the command line tuner utilities, but I didn't try that before hand to actually see if the tuning was working. |

I am not sure about the programming guide, but shutting off the machine for some time is sometimes required with this card. This is because the firmware is uploaded to the card, but will not work until it is powered down and can reset itself. I recently had a similar problem, but had already downloaded the program guide, but upon turning it off for ~10 minutes and starting it back up, the card worked great. My HD-3000 was working as well. Unfortunately I was trying to figure out how to rip DVDs to the box and played around too much. I did an apt-get upgrade, and the computer threw a fit. So I may try to start again at the beginning. If I get it all working again, I'll try to post the steps I took. ~Matt |

Awesome, maybe I just wasn't leaving it off long enough before last night. I'd install the new firmware and turn it off only for a minute or two and it never seemed to work right. |
