I'm running a fairly new 20" crt monitor. I won't be using a tv till I can show proof to the wife that we need a bigger than 20" display to connect to a running mythtv box.

Well then make sure that the Horz and Vert timings are set appropriately, restart gdm, and check the log file to see what if anything it's complaining about. ;-) This is going to take some fiddling, but it's not all that horrible.

BTW - Someone else mentioned things being VERY VERY dark and turning up the brightness allowing them to at least see something.

i think tjc wrongly talked to me about monitors when he should have been talking to another poster. I was talking to mbelly about non monitor stuff, and someone else started talking about tv modes

i was talking to mbelly about install process, this modeline and monitor stuff do not apply to my problems I am not using a tv and my monitor accepts everything.
I just wanted an easy step by step as I type here I am re loading crunched tiger myth dragon for the third time. Taking notes so far, I get hung up in channel selection stuff. but I can get back to start in 12 minutes with nvidea card, new error screens are new to me like did you run a channel scan? am I supposed to do DVB_fix etc. I am going through this pain now..back to the linuxbox..yell at me at will cecil, and thanks for all your work in making this work for some people right off the bat. Wife is watching the next install.. "bad boy no (HDTV) for you till you do your homework.

Does anyone have any idea how the Knoppmyth guys got the pchdtv 3000 and the ivtv drivers to work? When you build a modern kernel like 2.6.14.2, you get the current pchdtv sutff, but as soon as you build ivtv 0.4, that replaces things that cx88 depends on with incompatible modules and it won't load anymore.

What could Knoppmyth have done to fix this problem?

Didn't you read that this has strayed off-topic? What is so difficult about reading? Which is all it takes to get this combo working. This thread stops here.
