Post subject:  Celeron 333 backend w/ EPIA M1000 frontend

Backend system:
Abit BH6 v1.0 motherboard (Intel 440BX chipset)
Celeron 333MHz cpu
384MB PC100
WD 120GB 7200 rpm IDE HD
Plextor 12x CDRW
100Mb PCI ethernet card
Hauppauge PVR150 nonMCE (1045)
No Monitor, Keyboard or Mouse
Belkin 900VA UPS (Runs for about an hour on battery)

Frontend system:
Via EPIA M1000 motherboard w/ 1GHz C3 cpu
512MB PC2100
WB Scorpio 40GB 5400 rpm 2.5" HD
DVD-ROM
PW-200-M 200W DC-DC power supply
AC-DC 12V / 5A Switching Power Adapter
Standard Keyboard
RetroZone USB joystick adapter + Vectrex Joystick (setup for menu navigation)

The backend was just something I threw together out of spare parts. I didn't think it would even work, but performs surprisingly quite well with the PVR150. TOP shows minimal loads and CPU usage when recording and playing back recordings on the frontend. I didn't have to do any major edits to the default install on the backend, but I wouldn't label it as a Tier 1 since it's severely limited when it comes to transcoding or flagging videos. In other words, don't even try it.

The frontend is still a work in progress, but it runs great. I followed the frontend install instructions on the wiki and removed all the unecessary apps and configured the IP address of the backend. I also changed the fstab to mount the backend's myth/ partition as a nfs share instead of the 2.5" drive's /myth partition. Since I couldn't get the remote working, I set up the joystick to navigate the frontend menus. See the Wiki for the HowTo.

Both systems are running R5A26. Eventually I plan on using a Compact Flash card or PXE to boot the frontend to make it even quieter. The PVR150 remote also doesn't work since the backend sits in a closet.
