Hi all,

Since upgrading to R5F27, i've started noticing that transitioning between programs when watching livetv, sometime the frontend hangs/pauses. Using esc, i can get back to the menu, and start livetv again.

I'm not sure if this was happening in earlier releases, as i generally watch recorded shows, and this doesn't occur on recorded tv.

I did some searching on svn.mythtv.com, and found some tickets that seem to accurately describe what im experiencing.

http://svn.mythtv.com/trac/ticket/2335
http://svn.mythtv.com/trac/ticket/3963

Now, being an avid KM user, i dont really want to enter into recompiling mythtv, which seems to be the solution for this problem (including the above patches).

Since this is only for LiveTV, i might hold off till the next KM release which hopefully will include the above patches.

I've seached this forum, and cant find anyone experiencing similar problems, which is very weird, unless noone watches livetv?

Or am i way off the mark?

Nathan

Nathan,

Probably really obvious, but have you disabled the "wait for seq header" option in mythtv-setup?

This problem has been discussed many times in the forum and disabling this option usually fixes it.

Your hardware hasn't been listed, incidentally. You should list it in case it were your hardware at fault.

Mike

Hey Mike,

I noticed that in the SVN ticket, but the majority of the replies said that doing that "sort of" fixed the problem, and later in the ticket, there was patches and happy users :)

I'm at work at the moment, but i will try disabling the "wait for seq header" trick when i get home tonight.

I'll also get my hardware listed, it's a bit of a mongrel setup, so i cant remember off the top of my head... i've been running KM on the same HW for about 2 years, and only just started noticing this issue... but then again, i dont watch too much livetv...

Also, thanks for your efforts on the aussie epg script stuff. I spent ages getting my setup to work, and am too scared to blast it away with your stuff, but a mate of mine used it on a fresh install and he is firing along..

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,

Nathan

Hi again,

I tried disabling the "wait for seq header" trick, but to no avail. The problem appears to be consistently reproducable, at the 6pm change over from one program to another, it seems to freeze every time.

I'm pretty sure its not heat related, and i'll get to the logs in detail when i get a chance, and post them.

I'm half inclined to try building mythtv from source (to get the patches mentioned earlier), but am worried that i might bugger up my otherwise 100% functioning KM box.

Is there another setting that i could have wrong? I would be surprised as i've not seen this problem on earlier KM releases.

Any recommendations one way or the other?

Cheers,

Nathan

To anyone who is listening :)

There is a guide on recompiling mythtv from svn within a R5F27 KM install, see this link
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 5&start=90

Has anyone done this, are there any side effects?

Cheers,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

As a matter of interest, which cards are you using?

I disabled the wait for seq header thing about 6 months ago and I haven't seen the problem again once.

Hey Mike,

I've got 2 Avermedia A777 PCI cards, and 1 Compro T300.
I had a rough start with the avermedia ones a few years back, but have both been ok since support was officially included in v4l-dvb.

The Compro card is a dud at the moment, cant record channel 9 whatever i do. So, its in the third PCI slot, and gets used rarely.

Sounds like it might be used even less if they can get this recording on the same multiplex/backtoback recordings sorted for 0.21?

BTW, where is the best place to put my KM box specs?

Cheers,

Nathan

Hi again,

I just double checked that the "wait for seq header" was unchecked for all cards, and it wasnt. I've applied it now, and will see what happens.

Probably was watching livetv through the one with it not unchecked.

Will post back with results.

Cheers,

Nathan

Cool. Hope the problem goes away this time. Installing with "ausdragon2" will modify that setting in the database, too.

Cheers

hey mike,

unfortunately, the showing of 20-to-1 watching livetv froze at end of program, 8:35 (at program transition).

I'll try a different channel, as so far its been 9 ive been trying.

It may be the Avermedia card: I vaguely recall my ex wife having a similar problem with that card, too. Switch to your non-aver card (y on your kb) and see what happens. The TV card seems like the most likely candidate.

Morning,

Will do that, im sure i tried a combination of that last night, but i'll be more scientific this time...

Also, I rebooted last night, and "beckham" on livetv was watched, and ran over transition fine... then the next epg transition went bung...

Alternatively, I might try pausing for 10s, then seeing if the BE gets the next show to disk in time for the FE? Worth a shot?

Nathan

ok,

This is what ive done today
1) Ran the script to download from svn
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=11985&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=90
2) Hit some bumps, including v4l-dvb support
3) Couldnt get myth to compile with dvb support
4) Tried the "tips" at the following URL to get DVB happeinng
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16434
5) Recompiled, took ages, no complaints.. still mythbackend complained about no DVB support...

said stuff this, its coming up to recording time in the evening (WAF factor is important), so grabbed my trusty R5F27 CD, did a backup, and ran an upgrade...

all went swimmingly as usual, apart from
1) mythwelcome funny business in the initial stages, seeming to power down the PC when doing the config
2) the default theme being too large for my screen, so ran this script to select one that worked
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8856&highlight=setting+theme+command

Also, mike, appears that the problem of program transitions was fixed by auto upgrading R5F27 -> R5F27... wierd, but its going ok at the minute...

So, some lessons learnt from todays endeavours.... dont underestimate the effort and skill that the KM contributors put in. I tried for 3 hours to get myth compiled, still no success.

Hats off to cecil and his band of scripters/testers... it aint easy work.

Cheers,

Nathan
