I apologise for being a complete spaz but I do not have internet on my mythbox.... so how do I download;

http://svn.openchrome.org/svn/trunk/

.....to my Windows PC so that I can transfer it to my mythbox? If I type it into the address bar it just sees it as a list of files in an html file. I tred using Reget but it just download an index.html file.

I updated my openchrome drivers as stated with the exception that the new drivers were named openchrome_drv.x and I needed to specify openchrome as my driver under xorg.conf instead of via. However, now that I have upgraded, it appears that XVMC is not working properly. In all previous versions, when XVMC was working the OSD would be greyscale, now it is showing color. Also my cpu is much higher when showing video. I hope there is a workaround, or patch put out soon.

Thanks,
- Ben

I'm seeing the same thing - can't get the via driver working correctly. I just tried to rename the driver files - but that was'nt a succes.

I had a disk failure (and no backup) of the knoppmyth i installed two year ago. So i thought i should try the latest.

I can live with it as a backend* - so right now i've just switched to a vesa driver and are trying to complete the install.

But i'll try to get at the via running again later

* usually wath the recordings on my laptop when away from home

update: With the vesa driver i completed the setup without further incidents. So now it is sitting there waiting for the next recording

Yeah - No surprise... My EPIA MS10000 has the same problem.
After the autoinstall of the R5F27 the screen just got blank when X was started/video drivers were loaded.
After performing the driver update as described above (thanks a lot for the expertly described hints) I got the 10x times flicker every 5 minutes.
There might still be some driver renaming that I can try, but after that I am out of ideas.

But now to my question: Is it even worth for me getting R5F27 running on my Epia system? I read reports on extreme CPU usage.
What is the general opinion out there? Am I better of using R5F1 for now or will we be able to tweak R5F27 to work well with the Epia graphics?

I am just taking a new swing at Myth after a 2 year break - so I am properly not to much help. But if anybody has some ideas, I will be happy to try them out on my system.

Just had to do this update for one of my MII10000 boxes. According to the changelog, as far back as 2007-06-07, the openchrome team has renamed the driver.

In xorg.conf, you no longer reference the driver by the "via" name. Instead, your device section looks more like
Code:
Section "Device"
   ...
   Driver "openchrome"
   ...
EndSection

Ditto that for the file names. Instead of being via_drv.*, the files are now named openchrome_drv.*.

So, if you perform this upgrade to R5F27, keep these changes in mind.

Yay driver updates! :-)

I'm also very interested to hear if it's worth to update EPIA system from R5F1 to R5F27. Or other way around, is there some reason not to do that (e.g. extreme CPU usage)?

I'm currently pretty happy with R5F1, but ofcourse would like to get the latest version running :)

Just found this because I've been searching for a solution or ideas to an openchrome problem I'm having. I am now running R5F27 on my EPIA MII12000. I had an HDD failure on R5E50, otherwise I wouldn't have upgraded.

You *can* make it work sorta reliably, but I have run into some niggly problems that just wont go away. The WAF is running pretty low here at the moment, having just lost all her TV programs, and replacing her nice reliable R5E50 with this. Here are the open issues for me (i.e. the once I haven't been able to resolve):

a) openchrome is using 50+% CPU playing analogue SD TV (2GB/hour) and 70+% CPU playing digital SD TV (3.5GB/hour). I am running mythfrontend at nice -8, but I still get stuttering when any other processes start up. In R5E50 my processor load was very low - 20 - 40%. No solutions on this forum, bug raised at openchrome.

b) You need to turn off most of the rrd stuff. Even nice'd it still causes stuttering. Also rrd for temperature/fans seems to fail.

c) The EIT data grab from the DVB-S card happens *a lot* and seems to create a high load. You can tell it to not happen for up to 2 hours since the backend last recorded anything, but after that - I get stuttering. Mythbackend and mysql jump to 20-30% CPU each.

d) I get backend hangs on startup. Everything seems to start, mythfrontend and mythbackend are up and running. The logs are clean. But the front end can't get any responses from the back end. The back end is hung on something. After lots of investigation, I *think* its something to do with EIT data collection. Rebooting or waiting seem to make it go away till next reboot.

e) data grab for movies from iMDB is unreliable.

f) mythbrowser doesn't work at all. I'm sure there is a simple fix out there, but I haven't got to that yet.

g) mythstream (not mythtvstream) is still a piece of junk. The UI is crazy.

On the way, you have to solve these (mostly) non-trivial problems:
- blank screen on boot
- 44.1 vs 48KHz music playback
- modelines (more on this below)
- db table missing after install
- screen placement/overscan/underscan problems.
- bob deinterlacer misbehaving

Having made the upgrade, there's no feature here that I really need. I'd advise holding off until the next version in the hope it addresses the biggest issues above, especially openchrome performance and EIT data downloads.

If you are not using DVB data - that is you are just recording analogue data from a PVR-x50 - then you are probably in much better shape than me. Good luck.

Paul

MODELINES
I finally figured you dont need any modelines. They seem to be ignored by openchrome, you just need to use the following modes: (from http://www.openchrome.org/trac/browser/ ... .h?rev=187)
Code:
"640x480", "800x600", "1024x768", "848x480", "720x480" (NTSC only) and "720x576" (PAL only). Use "640x480Over", "800x600Over", "1024x768Over", "848x480Over", "720x480Over" (NTSC) and "720x576Over" (PAL) for vertical overscan. The modes "720x480Noscale" (NTSC) and "720x576Noscale" (PAL) (available on VT1622 only) provide cleaner TV output (unscaled with only minimal overscan). These modes are made available by the driver; modelines provided in xorg.conf will be ignored.
