I am attempting to make my system bell sound after a script is finished running using:
Code:
echo -e "\a"

but, I am getting no love here. It looks like the pcspkr module is not loaded or included in knoppmyth? Can anyone else out there here any beeping? If the module is not included is there any way I can add it easily?

I am using release R5F27.

Use the aplay command to play a wav file.....

aplay -q file.wav (>>/dev/null to suppress messages)

I wanted the bell to sound so I wouldn't have to have my tv on to tell if the script was finished but, it looks like the pcspkr module is not included with the kernel included with knoppixmyth so, I would need to rebuild the kernel with the module enabled in order to get this working. I don't know if it is worth the risk of breaking my system just for the bell, unless someone feels like giving me a nice how to to add the module in. :) I did see the how-to for updating the kernel in the wiki but, it wasn't exactly clear to me how to enable/add in the module.

There are already various threads on the forum on recompiling the kernel. Please search if you want to do this. Or, you can wait for the next release (about a week)...

Thanks Cecil! I was just looking into the system beep today for the same reason. I'd like to have the knoppmyth box beep once it was down loading my mp3 player with the latest podcasts. The PC speaker is a nice solution as you don't have to the TV on to hear it. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to get a script run when I plug the device in. Cheers!

You're welcome. Sorry it has been longer than I'd like...
