First let me say Knoppmyth is a great system, and many thanks to all the people who make this possible. I am trying to learn as much as I can about Linux, but never being involved with software before makes it difficult. I will persevere and learn as much as I can.
I have been trying to get Knoppmyth R5F27 working for some time but I am not having much luck despite my efforts. So I am calling on some kind person who knows more than I do to give a helping hand.
The (auto) install appears to go very smoothly. I have tried running the install many times and I do not notice any errors.
I am able to watch TV no problem (video OK, sound OK), I can even record by pressing the "R" key while watching TV. My remote works with the exception of changing channels. In order to change channels I have to bring up a terminal window and use the command line. The IR blaster works just fine and changes the channel on the cable box.
I have a subscription with Schedules Direct and when I do a mythfilldatabase it looks like Knoppmyth is receiving the data and saving it. But no program guide. If I look at the system info it says the guide update was done and the result is blank. It suggests the time of the next update. Then the next line says "There's no guide data available!" and the line after asks if I have run mythfilldatabase. It also shows Schedules direct status as blank but shows the expiry date of my subscription.
Here is what portions of the backend log looks like:

You'll need to define the script in the Input Connections setup (see below).

Did you setup a channel lineup @ SD? If you run mythfilldatabase from an xterm do you see any errors? Oh, and as you have a PVR-350 be sure to not "Scan for channels", but "Fetch channels from listings source" instead.

Sounds like your Input connections are not (properly) defined. See http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... WatchingTV Yes, it's lengthy, but 99% of the issues people have with tuners/schedules are solved by something in this page. Note that section "4. Input Connections" probably covers your problem with the remote as well, you need to define a channel-changing script (See for example http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... hSetTopBox)

Thanks for your help.
I have defined the script in the Input Connections setup.
I did setup a channel lineup @ SD.
When I run mythfilldatabase from an xterm I do not recognise any errors.
I did not "Scan for Channels".
Since reading your reply I tried the "Fetch Channels".
I have been through the "Black Screen Watching TV" wiki a few times before but I did it one more time because I have this feeling that I am real close to having this system work perfectly. I paid special attention to section 4 as you suggested. It appears to be OK there.

When I do this command as root :
dmesg | egrep 'tv|i2c|tuner|msp|saa|cx25|cx88|lirc'
I get the following output:

I notice the card type is 47, is that OK?
I did set "Preset Tuner To channel =3" in the "Input Device Setup"

To this point there has been a minor change in that now when I try to use the remote to change channels, the number channel I key in appears in the top right hand corner of the screen but when I press OK the numbers on the screen goes away but it remains on the same channel. That did not happen before. Am I making progress?

From A Xterm I was able to do "$ tv_grab_na_dd --configure" and configure SD. I was also able to do "$ tv_grab_na_dd --days 5 --output test.txt". When I look at this file all the data seems to be coming down the pipe from SD.

I wish I knew what I am doing wrong here.

Regards,
Frank

Maybe try

Code:
mythfilldatabase --do-channel-updates

or delete and re-create all your capture cards, video sources and input connections

When running mythfilldatabase from an xterm you should see a number of entries like
Code:

This output should also be present in your /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend log.

Exactly how my 350 shows up, you should be good there.

I don't use a STB so I don't know particulars there, but a search for your specific make/model may lead to a different channel-change script (?). Either way, without guide data you won't be able to record shows (except manually). Let's see that output from mythfilldatabase.

Are you still receiving the
Code:
2008-03-05 12:00:54.143 GetChannelData() failed because it could not
find channel number '3' in DB for source '1'.
2008-03-05 12:00:54.145 TVRec(1) Error: Setting start channel '3' failed,
and no other channels were found on input.
errors?

Lastly, if you can post the output of the following MySQL commands:
Code:
select * from program;  (Just a snippet to see if anything is in there)
select cardid, cardtype from capturecard;
select cardid, sourceid from cardinput;
select * from videosource;
(Just clear out the username/password on that last one).

Sometimes it's easier/faster to start from scratch as tatuirovka mentioned...

[color=darkred]Sorry I am a bit slow with getting things done and replying but between work and being a techno-weenie, thats is why. But I do appreciate the help.[/color]

tatuirovka:
You suggested I try "mythfilldatabase --do-channel-updates"
I did but nothing changed.
I then tried deleting and recreating the capture cards, video sources, and input connections, but there was no change.

When I run "mythfilldatabase from an xterm this is some of what I get:

I am running just one 350 and that is all that shows up.

Here is my channel-change script:
#!/bin/bash

# Automatically Generated by /usr/local/bin/irblaster.sh

echo Changing to $1

REMOTE_NAME=SA2200

for digit in $(echo $1 | sed -e 's/./& /g'); do
/usr/bin/irsend --device=/dev/irblasterd SEND_ONCE $REMOTE_NAME $digit
sleep 0.7
done

I am still receiving these messages in my backend log:

When I enter the four MYSQL commands you suggest I get the same response for all:

I suspect I have two problems, one is the program guide and the other is the changing of the channels.
Hope this info helps, and thanks again.
Frank

You still have something wrong in your tuner/inputs setup. How did you setup your 350 in Capture Cards? (The mysql statements will tell us)

You need to use the mythconverg database. Such as mysql mythconverg

This is correct, so take it one step at a time. Get the guide data squared away first...

I will have to try typing this as I have no idea how to capture a xterm screen to a file. Hope this works.

Mysql commands: followed by results

select * from program;
Empty set

select cardid, cardtype from capturecard;
cardid=2 cardtype=Mpeg

select cardid, sourceid from cardinput;
cardid=2 sourceid=1

select * from videosource;
sourceid=1 name=SD xmltvgrabber=schedulesdirect1
userid=XXX freqtable=default
lineupid=null password=XXX
useeit=0

Frank

To steal from Jamie Hyneman: "Well there's your problem!" Do you have a lineup defined with Schedules Direct? If so, you haven't picked it up (and probably have no channels defined, therefore no guide data). Double-check http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... WatchingTV and make sure you have the portion under "3. Video Source" covered.

Also, one last mysql statement just in case the above isn't true (sorry I forgot this in the last post)
Code:
select * from channel;

Nice detective work here slowtolearn. I think this is classic that we'll be pointing others to in the future.

BTW - I usually give people the command line form to avoid confusion. E.g. as root run:
Code:
mysql mythconverg -e "select * from channel"

Then you can tell them that to capture the output just add:
Code:
mysql mythconverg -e "select * from channel" >results.log

or:
Code:
mysql mythconverg -e "select * from channel" >>results.log

if there is more than one output that you want to group together.

Yeah, should have gone down that road. Been building a new deck all weekend, brain and body a bit fried, not all that much up for thinking right now :wink:

I think I do have a lineup defined with Schedules Direct.
I am able to do:
$ tv_grab_na_dd --configure
It shows my userid, timezone, lineup, etc.
When I do:
$ tv_grab_na_dd --days 1 --output listing.txt
This is a sample of the start and the end of the data received.

In Knoppmyth the video source setup is set to the following:

Video Source Name: SD
Listings Grabber: North America (SchedulesDirect.org) (Internal)
user ID: (correct - all lower case)
password: (correct)
(To the right of password there is a button that says) "Retrieve Lineup"
Data Direct Lineup: Rogers Cable Inc.-CableDigital-Digital-l5n3c6-0005580:X
Perform EIT Scan (is not checked)
Channel frequency table: default

When I do the mysql command "select * from channel"
the result is "Empty set"

To say the least I am puzzled as to why the EPG is not working and what I have to do to make it all happen.
Regards,
Frank

I have finally slain the dragon with some major and persistent help from slowtolearn as well as tjc and tatuirovka.
Thanks again guys. Knoppmyth is great.

The last thing I tried was changing "Schedules Direct, Software you use:" section from

"Mythtv:KnoppMyth" to

"XMLTV:Mythtv/XMLTV

and magically it started working after a mythfilldatabase.
I hope that is the correct selection.
I should also mention that the remote now works perfectly (all functions).
I guess it is amazing what can happen after a good nights sleep.
Thanks to all,
Regards,
Frank

Really?? Mine has always been set to MythTV:KnoppMyth. Perhaps a hiccup with SD's Rogers Cable data, a geographical anomaly (where are you located?), any number of other things I couldn't explain, etc.

Anyway, glad you got it working. Enjoy your new toy!

I am located in Toronto, Canada.
My guess is that you are correct in your assumption. I do not know why Canada always tries to make everything different from the US. It is a real pain at times. Enough of my rant. Thanks again. I appreciated your help very much.

Frank
