I run Knoppmyth on a FE/BE combo, and I also have an FE on my office computer that runs on Ubuntu. I just recently upgraded my office computer to a newer version of Ubuntu, which also automatically upgraded its FE to myth 0.21.

The 0.20 vs. 0.21 mismatch apparently has corrupted the database on my Knoppmyth machine. Although all of my recordings are still listed and watchable, my capture cards have disappeared. When I attempt to add them, mythtv-setup experiences a segmentation fault, and the terminal says, "Unknown column 'parentid' in 'where clause' "

So what are my options? Is there any way to repair the database? Could I add this parentid column back in? I know nothing about mysql, so any suggestions would require some hand-holding.

If I have to uninstall-reinstall the database, is there any way to get the database to see my recorded programs again?

See the database/disaster recovery pages on the wiki...

We've also had multiple reports of people doing this to themselves lately so a search of the forums should turn up 3-4 active threads within the last month. e.g. - http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18294&highlight=database

Just so you have no excuse for not reading the recovery directions on the wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=RepairingMythConvergDB The second half of the page deals with getting lost recordings back into the system.

Thanks, but this is looking pretty hopeless. Now my database doesn't even appear to exist.

If I were to do a clean install (not just an upgrade), would /myth be wiped, or would my recorded tv files remain in some form?

Auto Install wipes everything. Manual install may let you just scrub the root partition.

BTW - You're still going to want to bookmark that page since it tells you how to get the files back into the DB afterwards.
