Since the last update for zoneminder, there hasn't been any changes to it. Can you provide more details as to what isn't working?

The Web interface runs with no problems. I can configure the capture card and camera setting. I can access it also through the myth interface with no problems. It all seems happy until I start it with either the web interface or by line command "/usr/lib/zm/bin/zmpkg.pl start". If you try and look at a camera output through either interface the output has no data. Once you start it, you start getting the errors in the log file. The log clip I posted was from everything.log from once I start Zoneminder. It just keeps repeating the same thing over.

I ran through all the stuff that bobmyth had posted to get it going and it was all correct. I didn't have to mess with anything like in the original release. It looks like a great job was done on the new package to get everything correct.

I did run pacman -Syu as well before I did anything.

I will post the clips from the two log files that are unhappy.

I also tried running zmdc manually and I get the following
Code:
[root@mythtv ~]# /usr/lib/zm/bin/zmdc.pl start zmc -m 7

Hi,

I am trying this for the first time. Have a USB webcam here as a test camera to begin with but I haven't got that far. Followed directions above with some minor issues:

Quote:
Fix permissions for images, events, sounds, etc
Code:
sudo chown http:http -R /home/httpd/html/zm

This is /data/srv/httpd/htdocs/zm/ for me

Quote:
sudo chown -R http:http /var/log/zm

This doesn't exist (yet anyway).

I am up to date on my versions of mythzoneminder (mythzoneminder-0.21-4) & zoneminder (zoneminder-1.23.3-10).

When I try and start I get the error below.

Code:
[root@mbe ~]# /usr/lib/zm/bin/zmpkg.pl start
DBI connect('database=zm;host=localhost','mythtv',...) failed: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'localhost' to database 'zm' at /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Config.pm line 89
Can't call method "prepare_cached" on an undefined value at /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Config.pm line 91.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Config.pm line 100.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder.pm line 33.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/share/perl5/site_perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder.pm line 33.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/lib/zm/bin/zmpkg.pl line 45.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/lib/zm/bin/zmpkg.pl line 45.

I'm thinking that there is no zm DB:
Code:
[root@mbe ~]# mysql -u root zm
ERROR 1049 (42000): Unknown database 'zm'

Thoughts?

Zoneminder looks like it badly needs a wiki entry, I'm happy to do that once I get it running.

This will help get past the first error:
Code:
/bin/su -
mysql zm
GRANT ALL on zm to 'mythtv'@'localhost';
\q

Thx for trying! However I really think there's no zm DB. Note that I never did anything with any DB on this installation, this is vanilla R6.00.09)
Quote:
[root@mbe ~]# /bin/su -
[root@mbe ~]# mysql zm
ERROR 1049 (42000): Unknown database 'zm'
[root@mbe ~]# mysql ZM
ERROR 1049 (42000): Unknown database 'ZM'
[root@mbe ~]#

  • Edit /etc/zm.conf to make sure you are happy. Look at ZM_DB_NAME and ZM_DB_USER and ZM_DB_PASS. If you are happy, continue
  • sudo /usr/lib/zm/bin/zminit

Now try to start zm again.

Thx Bobmyth!

so zminit actually creates the DB, cool, worked... But lighttpd was failing to start, turns out it didn't like this

Code:
alias.url = (
"/zm" => "/home/httpd/html/zm"
"/cgi-bin" => "/home/httpd/cgi-bin"
)

so I changed it to
Code:
alias.url = ("/zm" => "/data/srv/httpd/htdocs/zm")
alias.url += ("/cgi-bin" => "/data/srv/httpd/cgi-bin")

which I believe does what you were aiming for & now lighttpd starts. Unfortunately my (crappy test) logitech USB webcam, while detected by ZM, seems to not be working as all I get is a blank screen. Rather than killing myself trying to get it to work I may just try another camera, not sure.

Thanks again! In time I plan on creating a wiki page on this, it certainly deserves/needs one.

FYI, I did this write-up before you could install zoneminder from the service menu. When you install via the service menu a lot of the steps I mention here may already to done for you.

Ah, good to know, I guess no point in me working on a wiki then...

If you have simplified steps then please do make a wiki entry. This will make it easier for those that want to step ZM in the future.

I think the wiki steps would best be written starting with installing ZM from the service menu. As I have already deviated (unintentially) from this setup, I'm not certain exactly what would need to be done starting with the service menu :-(

Well this is cool, I run
Code:
/usr/bin/mythzmserver

And it seems to be working (no 'live view' but that is presumably because my camera only supports stills?). I also had to go into the zoneminder (web-based) console and start my monitor. But the next question is, how do I have this stuff auto-start on boot?
