Attempting a fresh install of 6.03. In the "capture card setup" section after reboot, I'm unable to find the receiver. I figured selecting "usb mpeg-4 encoder box..." would be the right setting, but there doesn't seem to be anything under the other settings either?

lsusb yields the following:
    Bus 002 Device 002: ID 80ee:0021
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
    Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2040:7070 Hauppauge Nova-T Stick 3
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

It appears the usb receiver is recognized by the os. Is it not LinHES compatible? I only have one, so maybe I should settle for something different when I buy more?

By the way - I do this in VirtualBox, if that has something to do with it.

Thanks for any advice.

/Chris

Hi Chris,
It is almost certainly a Virtualbox problem. What platform are you running it on? I had to solve this on my Ubuntu box to get usb sticks working on virtual machines.

On ubuntu you need to add virtualbox to your usergroups. Check this link: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Fix-VirtualBox-USB-Support-111715.shtml

I am also running Ubuntu, server Lucid and well updated. The VirtualBox version is the full blown one with usb support from their repository. I have gone through the config steps and added my user to the vboxusers group and checked the usb boxes in VB setup. If I understand correctly, that is all?

Code:
dmesg

    ...
dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T Stick' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
    usb 1-1: firmware: requesting dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw
dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw'
dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T Stick' in warm state.
dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
DVB: registering new adapter (Hauppauge Nova-T Stick)
DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (DiBcom 7000PC)...
    DiB0070: successfully identified
input: IR-receiver inside an USB DVB receiver as /class/input/input7
dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 50 msecs.
dvb-usb: Hauppauge Nova-T Stick successfully initialized and connected.
usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700
    ...

This leads me to believe that the LinHES VM has recognized the usb receiver properly?

For card type "DVB DTV capture card" and "USB MPEG4...", the video device is recognized as "/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0" which is consistent with the dmesg log. However, the "probed info" is either "failed to open" or "could not get card info..." :(

Any experience with the Nova T stick?
Any experience with receivers that work in a VirtualBox VM?

Thanks,
/Chris
