Hello forum

I run Knoppmyth R5F27 for some years on my VIA Epia ME6000 and it is doing a perfect job.

Since quite a while, the repositories are shut down and I can not install any packages via apt any more. Therefore I may upgrade to a current release.

In former times I have already tried some newer releases of Knoppmyth but they all failed as Mythtv seems not working with Openchrome (XcMC) after mythtv 0.20.2-7.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19210
So I had to stay with R5F27.

Can anybody tell me, if there is a way to install a current release of Knoppmyth and then install (downgrade to) Mythtv 0.20.2-7?

Or can I apply some changes to the current source of Mythtv and then compile it with Openchrome (XvMC) support myself?

Or does anybody know any other solution to solve this?

Thanks for your hints

This is indeed an interesting option.

At the moment I have a TechniSat AirStar 2 TV (DVB-t), which is connected via PCI Riser Card (two PCI sockets) onto the mainboard.

I consider to install an additional DVB-c (cable) video card. Then I may take a full featured card.

Can you recommend me a model?

Your best options are probably something GeForce 6200 or 8400 based.

I don't know about European availability or desired video outputs, but figure the going price is something like $40-80 (USD) for a GeForce based card for the PCI bus with s-video and/or composite outputs.

i`m confused, the little research i did on openchrome says that it is a video driver for VIA onboard video cards. You listed your tuner card. describe the rest of your computer.

mattbatt - VIA Epia ME6000 is a motherboard/processor combo with a built-in Via Chrome SVGA interface, equivalent to say a Nvidia IGP2. The Via Chrome video driver was the only other one with XvMC support.

that's what I thought. so if we find him a nice cheap video card that is Nvidia or ATI/AMD then He will be in business without openchrome right?

Hello altogether

thank you for your contributions.

Here some more information about my system:

My Epia ME6000 mainboard has a fanless 700 MHz CPU and an onboard hardware decoder for Mpeg video decoding (VIA CLE266).

This combination is capable to playback a recording (and record DVB-t TV simultaneously) with a CPU load of only 30 %. But this only works, if the hardware decoder (CLE266) is supported by an appropriate driver (Openchrome).

This combination is not capable to decode TV/Video stream through the CPU. If this occurs, the CPU load rises up to 100 % and the stream is still choppy.

So if I ever bypass CLE266, I have to make sure, that this does not cause additional CPU load. Maybe a fullfeatured DVB capture card (providing hardware decoding too) is able to to this.

I do not know, if a extra video card can do this job, but if one of you has some encouraging experience, I may give it a try too.

On the other hand, I also consider to use MythTV and Openchrome driver in the same way as it works now, but in a current Knoppmyth. If one of you can give me some support on this, I may avoid an extra card in my system.

Thanks for your help

MythTV didn't drop support for XvMC in 0.21. XvMC is no longer recommend and if memory serves will be dropped when 0.25 is released. R5.5 should work w/o issue. Backup and auto upgrade. If XvMC fails for whatever reason w/ R5.5, post details (in a new thread).

Thanks for this hint. I may try this and I will come back shortly with the results.

EDIT:
I did a clean install. Find the results here:
