I like the idea of upgrading but WAF is top priority and, judging from other posts, the upgrade path is not necessarily smooth especially if you use a streamzap. So I would be grateful for any observations on the main advantages of the upgrade so I can decide whether to dice with death or not. :roll:

Run mythbackup and make sure you have a successful backup. , then download the 7.2 iso, and then do the upgrade from the cd..
If you run into trouble you can always do a restore and that will roll it back. There is really no reason that I can think of not to try it.

In my case I have a snapstream firefly and it works fine I had no issues with it at all. As far as the upgrade goes it formats sda1 so it is sorta like starting with a clean slate package wise, All the pacman packages are updated and that is really nice. For my hardware (ABIT AN78GS Nvidia 8200) it found everything fine. I like 7.2 and the XBMC package is very nice...

I went from 6.04 to 7.2 as a clean install. 7.2 has several advantages: Includes Handbrake; updated drivers provides more stable support for newer hardware; fixes various issues like runaway log files. So far I am very pleased with the outcome.

In terms of the streamzap remote -- I ran into a problem with that but I had a mixed configuration. I was using an MCEUSB receiver with a Logitech Harmony remote configured to look like a streamzap. I did this with 6.04 because 6.04 had an old LIRC that did not work properly with the particular MCEUSB remote and receiver I owned. Under 7.2, that mixed-mode configuration did not work. But... When I re-configured the remote to be an "MCEUSB" remote, everything worked fine. I can't guarantee it, but I suspect that using a streamzap remote + streamzap receiver will work without problems.

My streamzap is not working at'll. Tried various configurations and no joy in mudville. Luckily the keyboard reaches my chair. :-)

My FE machine blew up when I tried upgrading. Mostly because I had installed a newer libcrypt. So I had to do some manual intervention. Now the box is up and running but my PVR-350 isn't working but this may be a simple device path issue. So I'm working on this.
2012-02-25 11:20:16.052 Channel(/dev/v4l/video0)::Open(): Can't open video device, error "No such file or directory"
2012-02-25 11:20:16.227 MythBackend, Warning: No valid capture cards are defined in the database.

Worse is that my FE machine wont' start mythfrontend! No obvious errors in /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log... working on this too.

Both machines spew this error over and over and over...

[ 4828.730126] svc: failed to register nfsaclv2 RPC service (errno 111).

Marc, I was using a Streamzap receiver with a Harmony One remote and customised streamzap lircrc and lircd.conf files (of which I still have copies). I have just upgraded from 6.04 to 7.2 and I am unable to solve my remote problems.

I have at my disposal:
(a) a Streamzap remote and receiver;
(b) a Harmony One remote;
(c) a Hauppauge mceusb receiver; and
(d) a Logitech DiNovo mini.

At the moment the only thing that works is the DiNovo. If I connect the streamzap combo, the only keys that work in Linhes are the arrow keys. Using irw in a terminal, a press of any key shows 3 results -- why I don't know.

Ideally, I would like to use the Harmony remote with either the streamzap receiver or the mceusb receiver. The DiNovo has a very low WAF.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Just to add to this debate on remotes on 7.2... I am running both a native Streamzap on a frontend and a MCEUSB on another with no problems. I used the setup screen (Services/LinHES/remotes) to select. I did find that on one of them (don't remember which) a reboot was required before it would work.

What did you do for your setup?

Not to poke the angry bear but I am using the streamzap reciever with the streamzap remote codes programed into my universal remote. That wasn't the problem I had in upgrading to 7.1 . My problem was that the database that I backed up in 6.3 wouldn't restore in 7.1 ! Work and TV schedule are too busy to try and trouble shoot for the next two months.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked and the streamzap combo now works. The mceusb mostly works with the Harmony One programmed as an mce remote, except that the Menu and Guide keys do not work at all. Do yours?

As this is starting to stray from my OP, I am going to start a new thread just on my problems with remotes and 7.2. I realize there are other threads, but they are either for different problems are they are over my head.

Try this:

1. use the MCEUSB receiver.
2. Configured LINHES to receiver=MCEUSB, remote=MCEUSB
3. Configure the harmony one for a "Hauppauge MCEUSB" device.

Can't guarantee that will work, as my MCEUSB receiver is a different brand, but this is essentially what worked for me. The only different between this a my configuration is that i used a Harmony device = "Microsoft Mediagate".

Is it my imagination or did the /etc/lirc directory come out of thin air? My remotes did not work at all until I moved /etc/lircrc and /etc/lircd.conf to /etc/lirc/. These files were in /etc on 6.04 (on my systems).

The MBE which upgraded seemingly without any issue still does not have a properly working streamzap remote. The only way I can get it to work whatsoever is to put set ReceiverType to "" in /etc/systemconfig. Any other setting yields no joy.

The only catch is that the "exit" button doesn't work when I do this. So I need to determine what key map I have wrong or what to set ReceiverType= to?

Thanks, Abs

Abigail, I found that on a fresh install of 7.2 that my Streamzap remote and receiver worked out of the box for all keys after I had selected that combo in the Linhes service menu and rebooted.

Marc, I have my Harmony One remote now fully working on Linhes - it required a mixture of an mce remote and a Hauppauge mce remote from the Harmony program to get all keys working, thanks.

The only remaining problem is to get any remote to work when I start XBMC. However I have a long term solution. I have ordered an IR keyboard which should arrive in about a month. Then I will use the IR receiver from it and teach the Harmony every keystroke I need. Then I can forget about LIRC and ir-keytable. :D

I'm considering installing a fresh copy of 7.2 myself on a spare pc using this streamzap just to see what happens.

Conversely it would help if anyone with a 7.2 install and a streamzap could provide me their /etc/systemconfig file.

Thanks, Abs

Not your imagination. It did move. However if you go into the service menu and select the new remotes it should both create the needed files in /etc/lirc and also update your systemconfig file. If you already have that remote selected you may need to temporarily change it to something else.

As currently configured with ReceiverType="" my streamzap controls only left, right, up, and down.

Using irrecord I created a new lircd.conf but still no joy. I don't think my system is configured properly. I see no reason why it's not using the irrecord config file. Hmpf!

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Guys,

I'm really confused about where the lirc* stuff goes, /etc or /etc/lirc? As discussed on this thread, the new location /etc/lirc exists but if I remove my configuration files from there, they are not recreated when I configure the remote via the frontend gui. (!?)

Also the /usr/MythVantage/bin/install_functions.sh script which is called by /etc/sv/lirc*/run has references to /etc/lircd.conf. See below.

function setupremote {
[ -e $BASE/etc/lircd.conf ] && mv -f $BASE/etc/lircd.conf $BASE/etc/lircd.conf.`date +%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M`
if [ -d $TEMPLATES/remotes/$Remotetype ]
then

Just for sanity sake, yes I am on LinHES 7.2, see below.

[root@mythbuzz bin]# cat /etc/LinHES-release
LinHES R7.2 (SCALE 10x)

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks! Abbygirl
