I wanted to free up some additional space by removing old packages from cache. It came back with an error that didn't sound good so I said N (was that the right answer?) Also answered N the next msg as well.

Code:
[root@mythtv mythtv]# pacman -Sc
Cache directory: /data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/
Packages to keep:
  All locally installed packages
Do you want to remove all other packages from cache? [Y/n] Y
removing old packages from cache...
error: error while reading package /data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/data: Unrecognized archive format
File /data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/data does not seem to be a valid package, remove it? [Y/n] n

Database directory: /var/lib/pacman/
Do you want to remove unused repositories? [Y/n] n

Now I am wondering what's wrong with "/data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/data" and how do I fix it? I am thinking I should have answered Y to the second question.

Can someone shed some light on what needs to be done and the correct responses.
Thanks,
TIm

Nothing to worry about. "data" is not a package at all. Packages end in .pkg.tar.{g,x}z

Unless I am missing something, yes. That is safe to delete and it is safe to remove unused repos.

Ok. I did answer yes to remove data but when I went to look it's still there. After some more investigation here is whats there.
Code:
/data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/data/srv/httpd/htdocs/mythweb  all the way down to
/data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/data/srv/httpd/htdocs/mythweb/classes and below
with all the files

It looks like the compete contents of /data/srv/httpd/htdocs/mythweb have know idea how that got there, but am thinking that I should delete the whole tree. Any thoughts?

No idea. LinHES has some customized stuff relative to vanilla Arch. You might want to wait for someone else to answer your question.

I have noticed if log out and then ssh back in again and then run pacman -Sc again I get the same error about the data dir.

Hopefully one of the admins can tell me if it's safe to remove the files in sub-directory /data/var/cache/pacman/pkg/data and below.

Jams,

Thanks for the update. I deleted the data subdir and I answered Y to

Do you want to remove all other packages from cache? [Y/n] Y
and N to
Do you want to remove unused repositories? [Y/n] n

Should I have said Yes to that one as well?

Tks
