After I boot up, and go through all the stuff that would be printed on dmesg, the text is readable on the screen. Once X starts up, I have a problem when I Ctl+Alt+F[whatever]. Only about 4 lines of text appear in the terminal. The first and third lines are blank, the second looks like multiple lines are printed on it, and the third line had the mythtv login prompt.

All of this happened after I tried to install the nvidia drivers. I've managed to get other items fixed as a result of this problem, but the last lingering effect is the one described above.

Any suggestions?

use ssh.

seriously this is known problem with nvidia drivers, for more details you can search over on the nvidia forums. In my experience it generally happens more often when you are using fb, but it really does seem to be somewhat random.

I had a similar problem and I findally found a fix for it. I offer this fix but I am not certain we had the same problem. If it is the same problem it is a bug in the nvidia drivers but it is easilly fixed. Go to /etc and edit lilo.conf coment out the vga=??? command

vga=??? change to

#vga=???

Then type lilo as root.

now reboot

That fixed my problem.
