I have a reasonbly stable KnoppMyth box (specs below) that's been working for about three months. I have Samba working, can browse the Myth box from my W2K machine. I can transfer small files (around 1GB) to the Windows box (for burning).

I'm trying to move some large movies (above 4GB) and get an error on the Windows machine saying there is not enough hard drive space for the file. The drive is a 120GB drive with 91GB free.

It seems the threshold is 4GB for whether files work or don't. I suspect this may be based on a 4GB limitation somewhere. Linux/Smaba? Windows?

Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks,
Steve

I've moved an 8GB file via samba to my XP machine so it's not a samba limitation on KnoppMyth/Linux.

More than likely it's how your drive is formatted, or the partition under W2K you're trying to move it to. For instance, FAT32 is limited to 4GB file size.

Thanks for the reply and the link.

It is indeed FAT32. It's ironic that's the issue because just a few days ago I noticed that the partition was FAT32. I rebuilt the disk a few months back and would swear I made it NTFS. :(

Well, I think I can convert it with Partition Expert...

Well, for anyone else with this problem, Partition Expert can't do it. But W2K and XP, natively contain the tools to do so:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/convertfat.mspx

I can now transfer these files after converting.

You can always convert from FAT to NTFS with

Code:
convert /fs:ntfs [drive letter]:

it's built in to XP, but you can't go back.

Careful if you are using Widnows 9X, they can't read NTFS.
