So, my father is coming to visit this summer! He's a big KU fan and is bringing a dish & his receiver. However, I want to impress him with mythtv  So, looking about I can see that mythtv supports dvb-s and that many things on KU are indeed in DVB format; in fact the place where I got my air2pc sells kits that include a satellite, LNB and DVB-S card.

So to my questions:

1. does Mythtv's DISEQC support control DISEQC controlled dish motors?

2. Is the DISEQC support totally provided by mythtv or is the card involved too? (some cards claim only DISEQC 1.1, others do 1.2 or 1.3--I believe most dish motors need 1.2+)

3. Since I've already got a working mythtv install, I'm not looking at any of the full-featured cards (I plan to tuck the DVB-S card away in a slave backend somewhere), so what are good budget cards that are well supported by myth? It looks like the VisionPlus FP1020 and FP1030 are supported as are the skystar2.

4. What kind of horsepower is required for a backend to record with these cards?

Thanks,

Amy

I don't know about how to use these things, but recording power is about the same as an hdtv, as it's basically doing the same thing just dumping the data to disk since dvb is broadcast in mpeg2 similar to atsc hdtv.
