I'm trying to install KnoppMyth R5A15 on an Athlon Slot A 750 mhz machine running on an Asus K7V-T motherboard. It has 1 gb of PC133 RAM. The CD drive is a generic IDE device configured as a master on the secondary IDE port. It is the only device on the secondary.

The CD boots and I get the initial "boot:" prompt. After hitting <enter>, the machine tries to boot. The actual error comes after the line "Enabling DMA acceleration for: hda". The the next line is "Accessing KNOPPIX CDROM at /dev/hda...insmod: error inserting '/modules/cloop.o': -1 Out of memory". The same CD boots fine on two other machines I've tested.

So I guess my CD drive doesn't support DMA acceleration? Any ways around this?

I've googled for an answer but found nothing. R512A gets the same error.

Thanks for any tips!

Drew

are you sure the cd is secondary master and not primary master? Cause it should not be trying to mount the cd on /dev/hda if it is secondary master it should be /dev/hdc and the install does have problems if you have your cdrom as primary master and your harddrive as secondary master.

Cloop errors are almost always a symptom of a bad burn, or at least one that the drive in question can't read reliably...

I have also had problems trying to install knoppix, when i tried booting the dvd from the disk i had the erroe message:

error inserting'/modules/cloop.ko':-1 Bad file number

Can anyone help with this. I have also tried booting the cd, knoppix 3.9 and 4.0 but the cd drive doesn't pick up a disk, it says please insert disk, press F1 to continue.

Many thanks

Dan

This is an FAQ. As stated previously your problem is most likley (to about 99.99% probability) a bad burn or incompatible drives.
    - Download the ISO image again.
    - Check that the MD5 hash of the ISO matches the published one.
    - Burn a new CD using this verified ISO at the slowest speed you can. It might also help to use diffferent media.
We've had folks who took 3-4 attempts to get a good burn. Others end up having to swap CD readers around to deal with compatability issues. What one drive burns another may not read reliably.
