I keep getting the same "Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem" error during install then it drops me to a "very limited" shell. And says "Press reset button to quit"
Any ideas what's wrong? Should I try an earlier release? I'm very new to linux based pvr so any pointers are welcome.
Also I want to install the root, swap, cache, and myth partitions in the most optimal way. I have a 30GB IDE and a 250GB SATA drive. Should I can the IDE and install exclusively on SATA, or install kernel & swap onto IDE and cache & myth to SATA? All opinions are welcome.

If you are doing an auto install, You will need to remove your SATA drive. If you want to keep the SATA drive you will have to do a manual install. I did not have much luck with it.
If you do a search on SATA you will find the information you are looking for.

Thanks for your response, but I've tried every combination of IDE and SATA drives I could think of. Including (the safest) removing the SATA drive, sata PCI controller, and disabling the SATA controller on the mobo, all without success. I get the same error everytime.
Let me make sure I understand the auto-install process:
1. boot from CD
2. at the "boot:" prompt hit enter
3. then a menu with some number of options is supposed ot come up.
Well if this is correct my problem is between steps 2 and three. No menu ever comes up. Please help me

Possible bad burn or CD/DVD drive incompatibility. Boot the cd with the "testcd" option and make sure it checks good. Oh, and if it's not a vanilla IDE (PATA) CD/DVD drive you may need to boot with the expert option and load the appropriate driver to get past the low level boot.

tjc, thank you for the help. It was a bad burn. One of my computers' CD-burner looks like it's on the way out.
I can't wait to see this thing work!!!!

SATA drives require a manual install and is pretty simple. KnoppMyth comes with a preloaded configuration for these drives.
KnoppMyth SATA Install HOWTO
At the main menu, select option #4 "Manual Install". Next you select your time zone, date & time. Once you've set that, you'll come to the main menu for manual installs. Select Option #4 "Load Config". It should read "/KNOPPIX/knoppmyth". Add "-sata" to the end so it reads "/KNOPPIX/knoppmyth-sata". Once you enter that, you'll be returned to the main menu. Select Option #1, Configuration Installation" and answer those questions. Once complete, go to option #2, "Start Installation". When done, press enter to get a prompt and reboot the machine. Once it reboots, you'll have to walk through the rest of the config.
Thats it
