This is the $149 Fry's Electronics PC that's sold with LinSpire with 128M of Ram and 40G harddrive. I of course wiped Linspire and put KnoppMyth on the 40 G harddrive. I added in 512M of ram I had lying about and 160G harddrive for /myth and added my air2pc rev 0.2 tuner. Install was easy and mythtv-setup found my card just fine.

And for a $149 PC, it's pretty nice. By removing the modem (bah, who needs one?) I have 4 PCI slots, it has a 8x AGP slot, supports 8 USB2.0 ports (would need 2 brackets for the last 4 though it doesn't come with), supports 2 COM ports (would need a bracket for com2).

This is a backend only as its only purpose is to record ts files that can be played over the network (via tapeworm & samba) on a winxp pc running a MyHD HD decoding card.

One of the real benefits of the geode chip is that it is not overly heat producing and low energy consumption.

That would be the 'GQ 3151 AMD GEODE NX1750', correct?

Does the motherboard in that unit still have S/PDIF on it?

I have used earlier Fry's GQ31xx systems and one of the benefits is that the ECS 741GX-M Motherboard had an S/PDIF riser on it.

Thanks in advance,

I have one of these GQ Fry's specials. In fact, I think I have the same one. I bought it as a "project computer" that I could expariment with. One thing I want to do is try Knoppmyth on it, set it up as a backend or NFS. I'm happy to hear that I shouldn't have too much trouble! :D

You'll have no trouble for SDTV. But it is too slow for HDTV. At least over Firewire.

I wonder how it is going after 7 months? Any issues that were not readily apparent?
