Hi, I have KnoppMyth installed on my computer, here are the specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1700
Asus A7N266 (this is an NVIDIA chipset)
512 Ram
120 gig HD
Hauppauge PVR-350
I was able to get through the setup, and I am able to get is to record and watch television but the backend keeps crashing. It seems to crash when I'm recording and I view the guide, or when one recording is done it crashes before the second one starts.
The front-end also locks up if I try to delete a recording in progress.
Should I recompile the kernel? If so ... how? I'm not a veteran Linux user by any stretch, and I don't know how to recompile the kernel to include and exclude the appropriate modules to get KnoppMyth to run with stability.
Any suggestions/instructions would be appreciated. When I get this working I'll post what it was and how it was resolved so other with the same problem can benefit.

What version of KnoppMyth? Have you checked the log files? (As root look in the /var/logs directory) Have you checked your disk parameters to make sure DMA is enabled? ...
Before you ask "how" to do any of those things I mentioned you need to do some research through the forums. Searching for "dma" will quickly turn up how to do that, searching for "log files" will turn up info on what to look for where, and searching for "backend crash" should turn up a number of things to check as well. When you do ask questions, try to provide as much detail as possible.

Sorry I should have put that I am using R4V3. I have checked the log files, and they just end, there is no error or anything that mentions the backend shutting down. Although to get the log files I had to run the backend from the command line and specify the log files manually because there was nothing in /var/log
I have also checked and DMA is enabled.
As a couple of side question, what version of MythTv does KnoppMyth R4V3 use?

You can try truning off automatic commercial tagging. I had the exact same problem and that fixed it for me. Also, I know there are other things to try. Just do a search on the word crash and read what comes up... You might find it helpful.

if you are using r4v3 a kernel recompile should not be needed since it is compiled with lapic disabled anyways.
knoppmyth uses mythtv v0.14 since r4v2.
the mythbackend logs are in /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log and the other important log file is /var/log/messages
