I want to install R5E50 on a sata disk on my Pundit-R (used Knoppmyth with an ata drive for 2 years now :) ). While booting, my hard-drive is recognized as /dev/hdc. I can't change this in the bios to hda because this one is reserved for the first ata channel, which is now the boot cd. So my conclusion is: no auto install anymore.

So I tryed to do a manual install, but when I selected my hard-drive, i can only partition it. I did everything said on the knoppmyth-pamphlet. But i never get "the six options".

My partition table looks as follow:
Code:
Name  Flags  Part Type  FS Type           [Label]  Size (MB)
hdc1  Boot   primary    linux ext2        [root]   5000
hdc2         primary    linux swap/solaris         768
hdc3         primary    linux XFS         [myth]   158155
(info from cfdisk)

Can anybody tell me why the knoppmyth installer doesn't give me the ability to install something to my harddrive?

Another idea was to change the auto install script to write everything to hdc instead of hda, but I think this is almost impossible, is it?

Actually the auto install script in R5E50 should ask you which drive to use...

Okay, let's try again:

Booted, just pressed enter at the boot menu.

First, just to be sure:
Code:
CTRL + ALT + F2
# cat /etc/KnoppMyth-version
KnoppMyth R5E50
CTRL + ALT + F1

From the main menu, option two: Auto Install
Made the correct time zone -> OK
Warning: Danger, Will Robinson! Agree? -> Yes
Filled in my name,username,userpassword,root password
Then a little summary, with the question wheter to proceed or not, I can't see anything related to partitioning the hard-drive -> Next

Then Knoppmyth comes with a proposal to overwrite ALL of hda..
5000MB for the root
687 for swap
remainder for /myth

So I pressed Yes, to continue, even though I know this is impossible
And again, yes overwrite everything.
And then, of course formating fails.

What did I do wrong?

There does seem to be an issue with the auto install and having the boot cd as hda. The only thing I can suggest is try using the manual install and use the extra info as per the wiki, by editing the configuration file.

Very strange. Every upgrade I've done with R5Ex series has recognized all the hard drives that were installed, including the SATA drive that got added recently, and asked which one too use. :?

Okay thanks for the comments, but it didn't help. For some reason I can't load any config in the knoppmyth menu.

The only options i've got in the manual install menu is to partition the drive. There isn't any option to install knoppmyth or to load a config file.

I really think I'm doing something wrong, somewhere. Does anybody of you know when the installer should ask what hard-drive to choose, so I can see where I'm doing something wrong.

It works now.. this is what I did:

Unplugged my sata drive, and put it into another computer. (harddrive will be sda on that pc). So I was able to do an auto install on it. After that, I removed the harddrive and put it back into my settopbox computer. Booting didn't work, but I knew I had to change /etc/fstab and lilo.

So I putted the boot cd back into my computer, also I plugged in my old harddisk into an usbdock. I did this to copy my old recordings to my new drive.

Well, I was curious whether the knoppmythmenu recognized my harddrive, and right now de auto installer asked me to install into: hdc and sda. Sda was my usb-harddisk, so i selected hdc. After answering some questions, the installer decided to install knoppmyth to hda.. strange.
So I wanted to know what the installer would want to do when I selected my usb drive. When I selected this drive, the installer actually wanted to install to the sda drive.

De manual installer now also works, I think I partitioned my hard-drive not correctly.

Well I think that I did something wrong and the installer does something wrong:
I partitioned my harddrive not correctly, which made my auto install menu not working.
The auto install script decides to install knoppmyth to hda even when I selected hdc in the selection menu. Can somebody confirm this?

I also think that this topic could be same problem, but I'm not sure. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13269
